World Postage Rate Chart Needed

As you all know, the postage rates went up.  Jerianne used to make a great, super-easy to read postal rate chart with international rates, but apparently she hasn't made a new one.  (I don't blame her for this.  She can't be at our beck and call all the time...)Ocassionally, like today, I'll have to mail a zine package to Canada, and charts on-line provided by the USPS only go up to 3.5 oz.  The one I need to mail is 7.9 oz.Does anybody have the tech savvy to take over Jerianne's old service of…See More

Snail Mail Junkie In Need of a Fix

Name: James N. Dawson

Address: P.O. Box 950, Spokane, WA  99210

Age: Well past youth.

Affliction: POB mail junkie.

Religion: Theravada Buddhist. More traditional/literal than most western Theravadins. Follow and regard Buddhism AS A RELIGION. Many would find me "dogmatic" or "doctrinaire", but I'm not overbearing or preachy about it. More negligent lately in my Dhamma practices than I should be. Needn't discuss religion. Just "laying it on the table". Write infrequent and irregular publication: DHAMMA LETTERS "Letters, Fragments, Essays. Critically Orthodox, Theravada Buddhist Perspective".

Politics: Animal-Rights Libertarianism. See:

Other Interests:
ZINES---Self-Publishing/Networking/DIY/Simple Printing/Zines---Mimeograph, Ditto, Letter Press, Home Xerox,

Pre or Non-Internet/PC Entertainment Technology---radios, tape recorders, analogue TV, Stand-Alone Digital, Etc.

Philosophy---Critical Thinking, Ethics, Politics, Religion, Ideas and Consequences, Theory and Action, Individualism...

Mysteries/Unexplained---Cryptozoology (Sasquatch, Pteradactyl, Thunderbird....), Misc

Music---Alternative Rock, New Wave, Garage, Synth, Post Punk, Goth....

Movies & Pulp Fiction----mostly "intelligent horror", cult, silents, obscure, B....

Documentaries---mostly 60's through 80's

Warning: I often "recycle" my e-mails and letters to supplement my mailings. Let me know how you feel about this, and we'll take it from there. I may use letters I receive in my zines---TELL ME CLEARLY "DO NOT PRINT" if you don't want me to.
E-Mail Me If You Must, But Why Not Just Send Me Paper Mail at my POB! Zines, Movies, Mix Tapes, Etc. Also Welcome! Will Answer All!

MY TRADE POLICY: No need to arrange trades via e-mail. Just send me your zine via the USPS and I'll reciprocate! When my zine reaches you, it's yours to do with what you like, but I'd be grateful if you didn't destroy or "recycle" it with the newspapers---I bled an ocean and cried a river of tears creating my zines, and paid a pretty penny to print them. Please, pass it on to somebody who'd enjoy them, if you can. I try to "read the situation" and treat zines I get according to how their makers would like, but if you have any "do's, don't or druthers" about how you'd like your zine "disposed of" or "passed on" it'd be best to make these clear. THANKS!

My Latest Internet Frustration

Posted on August 23, 2011 at 12:22pm 1 Comment

Somebody by the name of Gene Hawkridge sent me an invitation to join LinkedIn, which he himself is on.  At first, I thought it may have been some kind of spam, so I hit the reply button and politely told him I didn't remember ever "meeting" him.  Later, the name began sounding more familiar, and after an Inbox search, I did find he was a WA LP member and had contacted me in a mass e-mail a while back.  So, taking it as a possibly friendly personal gesture, I decided I'd go ahead and accepted…

"There's one more think I 'd like to ask, maybe you can give me some tips & advice.  I use to own my own body piercing shop back home in Las Vegas, it was called---"Vlad the Impaler".  Talk about some great times James?!!  The money was incredible.  I actually got to travel all over the world.  I've been in magazines (Tattoo & Savage) and have pierced thousands of people---including some pretty famous people.  I've got advice & storys that I think…

My Letter to Spokane Food Not Bombs

Posted on August 8, 2011 at 10:11am 0 Comments

Hello FNBers,

Thanks very much for the great meal yesterday.

I've hesitated to do this, but I'd like just to make a few comments on your local FNB and my involvement with it.

I had the sense that my attempts at a face-to-face inquiry about FNB met with some discomfort from some members, so I thought it might go over better in writing.  We libertarians tend to be rather blunt and direct in our discussions, and maybe I came across as overbearing.  If so, my…

Punks, Body Piercers: Any Comments on the Sites Below?

I'm very interested in the process of co-optation and conventionalization in radical subcultures and intellectual, social and political movements.  I'm curious what members of the subcultures/practices below might have to say about these sites.

Terrible Carpal Tunnel Pain Last Night

Posted on June 6, 2011 at 5:26pm 1 Comment

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to make a post like this, but i want to record it somewhere.  I had a similar experience a few years ago I recorded on eHealthforum.com, and was going to do it there, but apparently my last post dropped off their "archive", so I decided to do it here.  I've "whined" about it on Vegan Fitness Forum often enough, that I thought I'd better not bug them about it anymore.

Last night I had one of the worst bouts of "burning, aching, numbness" in…

I thought you might find this interesting. This is a perzine I did about a demonic experience I had that led me to Christianity. True story. I used to be on the borderlines of agnostic and atheist, and I was raised Buddhist, but this experience led me to God. I know now that Jesus Christ is real, and He certainly answers our prayers. Demons are also real, and deliverance ministries (all over the world) work to exorcise them out of people who have them through the occult and other sins.

It's a very short zine, I hope it qualifies as one. You can read the PDF form here: The%20Incubus%20a%20testimony.pdf

Hey, I just want to let you know I got your envelope today! Rad! I'm sitting down to read them right now. My stuff for you is enveloped up and I'll mail it on Monday! Have a great weekend.

Hey James--any new stuff lately? I want to read your thoughts! Always insightful and a lot of times on unexpected topics. Gimme a fix! I'll send you Shards #7 and #8 (my humor zine) in return. I think you'll especially like #7. People keep telling me it's "smart," which I think means they thought it was too wordy (it is), but I think  you would like it.

Hi James.  I was happy to receive your packet the other day.  I read everything, not just the highlighted passages (although I thank you for your consideration in that).  As someone who drinks up little bits of knowledge and ideas, I found your thoughts to be educational and thought-provoking. I mean, I had never considered that vegans--with some moral high ground positions--are not faultless with regard to environmental destruction.  As far as the highlighted passages go, your piece on neologism development and its relation to your social class was particularly striking. There's no way you could have known when you directed my attention to that piece, but I also come from lower middle class beginnings.  I managed to earn a Ph.D. despite what you might predict, partly because school was regarded somewhat reverentially in my family (and lower middle class work ethic a big contributor).  These factors make for a fluid cultural identity that I can't exactly say is a plus, though it's nice not to be summarily passed off as either a rube or an elite.  Nice to find another person with similar experiences.  You have both a tacit and empirical experience of the workings of social class in America, and I think your matter-of-fact voice is important.
