Profile Information

I enjoy reading and making zines. I also volunteer at the Chicago Underground Library, where there are many local zines and other self published things.

Junk Drawer is the name of the zine I've been doing lately. It's about odds and ends that I find. All are objects that don't really have a place to belong.
It's the kind of stuff you might find in a junk drawer.
If you have any favorite junk drawer items you'd like to tell about, I'd love to hear about them.

My zines are currently available at Quimby's bookstore in Chicago, and Bluestockings bookstore in New York City.

Junk Drawer Workshop

Posted on March 2, 2014 at 9:34pm 0 Comments

Junk Drawer held the first ever Junk Drawer Workshop.  It took place at CHIPRC, the Chicago Publishers Resource Center.

I talked a little about the history of the Junk Drawer zine.

Then we passed around a junk drawer stocked full of pre-selected odds & ends, and everybody found something of interest and wrote about it.  People brought in their own junk drawer objects too, so there was a bit of…

American Library Association Conference Chicago ALA 2013

The experience at the ALA Conference began like a zine fest, as I set up my Junk Drawer table and displayed my work.  But soon people began stopping by who were entirely unfamiliar with the zine scene.  I was unprepared for questions from one gentleman who asked me how I made money from zines, and if I knew how many of a particular issue would sell.  These were people from more of the business side of public services.  I realized that it was important to connect with these…

Midwest Zine Fest 2013

Posted on April 17, 2013 at 8:56pm 0 Comments

It was a good first time for me at the Midwest Zine Fest in Champaign Urbana.  (Or, as craigslist calls it, "Chambana.")  The fest was on the Urbana side.  I drove down with friends Nicki and Meghan from SPOC -Self Publishers of Chicago, and they had a table.  I had my Junk Drawer table, which was actually two old card tables I brought.  Other Chicago writers making the trip included…

Chicago Zine Fest 2013

Posted on March 23, 2013 at 11:43pm 1 Comment

It was another great time at the Chicago Zine Fest, but I almost didn't make it.  The fest filled up on the first day of registration, and I had to get on a waiting list.  Fortunately a spot opened up at the last week.  Then I had to buckle down and finish my new zine that I'd begun slacking on.

I met some…
