hi! i was just wondering if a perzine (letters that are compiled into a zine) would interest you. I've just recently completed ALPOLG1... for more info, you can visit my site. hope to hear from you soon.
I saw your call for submissions for a Winter themed zine. I have some winter poems I would like to share. If you are interested in reading them and deciding if you want to use them, please put a message on my comment wall, or add me as a friend and send me an email.

hey Lou Lou. thanks for your zine, i loved it, in particular the articles on your flat mates and your sons first punk gig. lucky kid, i had to wait till i was 14. your the first person ive traded with in melbourne, so i too was excited to recive yours.
would love to trade again, busy at work on issue 2 at the moment, si hopefully it should be out real soon
Hmmm, sadly I don't think I do have any copies left except my own archive one. It was over 5 years ago! If you're stupidly keen (and i don't know why you would be) you could look at the state library - i'm pretty sure i saw a copy in their collection at the open day.
But I totally recommend suburb themed zines. Mine was a compilation zine and my friend Eve edited the Northcote half so we had suburb war with all the zinesters going in to bat for the suburb they preferred. I guess it'd be interestin reading now given how much those two suburbs have both changed.
I'd be way keen to participate in a westside zine if you're still living out this way?
I guess with zine people you have to do what you're doing now, make sure you ask lots of questions and contact people directly. With the ILCW zine fair, I put together a huge list of melb-based zine people and emailed the lot of them giving them a heads up about table booking and the event details, way in advance. Then I did call-outs on various zine related lists and communities (the aus zines list, facebook, here etc). You'll definitely want to email elle at Sticky and get her to put a call-out in the newsletter. It's monthly, so she'll need some notice. Stuff like that.
Tables cost a LOT to book, but it streamlines things having them provided as most zine people cannot bring their own. Charging zinesters for tables tends to cause controversy also, as most zines tend to barely break even and are not-for-profit. But having it table-free obviously poses more problems.
I haven't been to a zine workshop perse - not one that has worked at least (City Library Street Press, version 1), though Target144 was workshop-like, but not formal at all. We just provided lots of stationary, and allowed people to do their own thing. Have you been to many zine events yourself? You just have to think about it in terms of what you'd like in an event and be realistic about the task of putting it on.
I guess try and have a time and date and venue locked in so you can start spreading the word with specific details and be able to lock volunteers in as definites. Make sure you don't organise it on the kind of public holiday that will kill your event - ie Mothers Day, which helped last year's Emerging Writers Fest's zine fair become quiet, or Yeah Write zine fair's election day one in 2007 (also quiet because few people seemed to want to go all the way to Hawthorn. And now i think people are wary of it because of its reputation for sucking). It remains to be seen whether this year's Emerging Writers fest zine fair will work, given that it's (I'm told) organised right at the end of uni semester.
either way, you have to get the word out to actual melb zinesters (but not too last minute) so people know it's on.
