We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

So yesterday I planned on working on the monster drawings I am going to submit to the coloring book issue of Lucky Creature Attacks. And instead of drawing, I procrastinated by doing actual boring work. I unpacked this box that's been sitting in my bedroom since I moved over a year ago. It's not like I needed anything in that box, either. I think it's just that I want to draw something different and I want the finished art to be really good. But in a sane and righteous world, I would be drawing monsters to procrastinate when I should be unpacking boxes.

doing nothing is my goal. i do wish i was procrastinating in ways where at least i was having fun. it starts to make me think a sense of accomplishment at completing a task is overrated. and, zowee, 70 hours! you need some minions, self-directed, goal-oriented minions.

since i started publishing our website, i stopped keeping track of my hours. i get paid what i get paid. but i know it's not 70 hours. for me, at worst, i'm just directing most of my writing energies at the site instead of my zine.

I only work because I have to. In my perfect world I could just sit on the couch and watch really cheesy, outdated movies every day! Not to mention writing about those movies that most people never have (or never would) watch. I think it comes down to a question of time.

These days I spend 60 to 70 hours at my real job while, as the years pass, I get slower at doing what needs to get done. Now I have to do in an hour a day what I had the whole day to do 25 years ago! But I adapt... just takes a while.
