It may not look it from the zine side of things, but I have been quite busy these past couple months. I've begun sending short stories off to a few journals and lit magazines for consideration, and also gave serious thought to turning my freelancing web design business into a full-blown LLC. I would love to continue freelance graphic design and web development because it allows me the time I need to write while also paying my bills.
Going back to a regular 9 to 5, tucked away in an office somewhere, and working to line some rich dude's pockets just doesn't sound very appealing right now.
As for the next issue of Pieces (I can't believe it's #5 already!), it's coming along, albeit at a much slower pace than I first anticipated. I would say about half of the copy is written (about 3,000 words). This is going to be another long one! A little blurb about it:
I’ve had some pretty wacky things happen to me while living in my apartment complex over the past four years, and I finally decided to write about them! Stories include having my mail stolen, fiestas with my Mexican neighbors, the police knocking on my door at 7 in the morning, a Christmas miracle of goodwill, and more.
I've been neglecting the stack of zines I've received as trades these past few weeks. I really need to sit down and read them, because they all look amazing. Make the time, Nichole. Make the time.
So that's about it. I hope everyone has been busy making zines!
