I'm a writer living in New York. That sets me apart not at all, really. So I digress...
In 2005, I co-founded Aforementioned Productions
, an online literary journal. We produced my evening of theatre--entitled Cleavage--and published the script the following year.
In 2007, we published my debut novel, A Girl Named Charlie Lester
. It went on to be honorably mentioned in the 2008 New York Book Festival and was lauded as "a lovely piece of female confessional" by Kirkus Reviews
And now on to the handmade books...I have a web comic that I plan to offer as a zine (20 pages, 20 strips, whee!). It's called Babysitter Want Ads and can be found here: http://bwa.aforementionedproductions.com They're sometimes cute, but mainly offensive. Feel free to check them out.
I also have an ongoing series that I only write (because I know so many talented artists) called Sequentially Yours. Issue one is available through my website and through mshalston.etsy.com
. Issue two will hopefully be out in the next year or so. SY issue one has satire, a silent kids' comic, and a slice-of-life tale. Fun for the whole family.
And, just in time for NYCC 2009, I have a new mini-comic called Itty Bitty Hipster. A satirical yarn for the cool kids, or at least the kids who try to be cool. It's a sendup to them.
