For any of you that might be up that way, Alexis Wolf (
Ilse Content), Craven Rock (
Eaves of Ass), and Joshua James (
Basic Paper Airplane) will be reading tonight at
Pilot Books on Capitol Hill. Starts at 7pm and is free.
Here's what
The Stranger had to say about it: "This is a group reading by three zine-makers. (Seriously: "Zinesters"
is not a word, and stop trying ot make it a word, please.) Wolf is the
author of a literary zine titled Ilse Content, which is up to issue #9. The impossibly named Craven Rock has written a zine titled
Eaves of Ass, which is better than the title would have you believe. And Joshua James makes a great zine called
Basic Paper Airplane. This could possibly wind up being the best reading of the week."
And we're slowly entering the masses of new zines coming our way. Here's what we got so far:
DIY or Don't We? Number Two ($3)- The follow-up to last year's wildly popular first issue, this is a zine
"about doing things together as friends, family, collectives, and communities." In this issue, there's stories about organizing a feminist collective, a story of time spent with a Palestinian farmer and his struggle to keep his land, adventures in stuggling to find community, thoughts on gathering fruit and making jam, and much more. Stories from Olympia to Australia. Illustrated and edited by the always great Nicki Sabalu.
Miami, You've Got Style: A Little Golden Girls Book ($10)- A hilarious coffee table book of commentary on every outfit worn during the first season of The Golden Girls. Brought to you by the creators of the zine Degrassi Digest.
