a place for zinesters - writers and readers
As I was bored to tears at work today, I was researching how I can spread the word about my two zines I made last month. I came across We Make Zines! I make zines too! So I figured what the hell, and joined up. And I must say this is freakin' awesome! I'm so psyched to start trading with other zinesters across the country.
My name is Sarah, I live in Los Angeles where I started taking a Writing Comics class over at Meltdown Comics on Sunset Blvd. This class helped me learn all the fundamentals of making my own mini comic. My first mini comic I wrote and drew, Naomi: Prequel to Pimpkillah, came out of that class taught by Jim Higgins. If you're in the LA area and you want to learn more about story structure and all the little technicalities of creating your own comic, it's definitely a class worth taking! They are also very independent artist friendly and have a whole shelf dedicated to us zinesters who don't have a publisher or distributor.
Since I'm not the best artist in the world, I wanted someone to carry out my story in a beautiful and vivid nature. So I got my oldest friend and best artist I know, Christina Mirani, to make my story come to life! Our first collaboration is An Introduction to Pimpkillah: The Protector. Check it out on my website! I would love to hear some feedback!
I'm constantly thinking of more ideas to write and draw, I started a comics page on my website where I will be posting comic strips periodically. If any of you want to to be featured on it, contact me and we'll set something up!
