We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

Hi everyone,

First of all, this is my first blog post on this site as I'm new here, so for anyone reading this thanks for giving me a chance! I guess the zine experience is really all about finding out about different philosophies and/or opinions on a huge range of subjects, which really is what makes them generally quite personal, but I understand that there are a lot of zines and related blogs out there so thanks for taking the time to read what I have to say here.

The main reason for this blog really is to outline the ideas for the zine that I have decided to create. I realise that making a zine is a lot of work to undertake, so I guess this is just my way of listing my main goals out loud so that I can keep track of where I'm headed...thinking out loud, as it were.

The idea for my zine itself is a zine about Irish DIY culture, counter culture, subcultures and the surrounding arts scenes. I would like to write about the people, places and things that matter to those who feel alienated by mainstream Irish culture and reject the opinions of the mainstream media in search of a more relevant and honest perspective on various subjects.

I would also like to promote work by amateur poets and artists of any genre.

At the minute, the zine is a metaphysical bag of ideas, but I'm hoping to get some things tied down soon. If anyone would like to help to get the ball rolling in the form of suggestions for planning the zine and/or resources that may be helpful, I would appreciate it greatly if you drop me a line via this site. Otherwise, thanks for reading and check back for updates...

Love and revolution forever,

Ashleigh

I don't really have any suggestions, but I just wanted to say hi and welcome and that sounds like such a cool idea! I'd love to read it when it's done. I'm 3/4 Irish, though I've only been over there once, so I'm pretty interested in the culture. Best of luck!
