New issue of Absent Cause coming soon -- submit by Sept. 1

It’s almost that time again…

September 1 is the deadline for submissions for the third fun-filled issue of Absent Cause: Death, Dying and Undeath. The new issue will be available in October to welcome the season of growing darkness, decay and Halloween / Samhain / Day of the Dead.

Absent Cause #3 will feature a stunning wrap-around cover by Brandi Lee, centerfold poster art by Disdane, interviews galore, essays, poetry, fiction and artwork as we explore death from many angles.

Also, I’m happy to report that there will FINALLY be a major update to the Absent Cause website this month, including excerpts from previous issues.

Explore the dark side with Absent Cause: Underground cultures, hidden histories, feminist and queer sexualities, chosen families and radical politics; vampirism, the gothic, horror and the macabre; body image and self-acceptance; surviving abuse, coping with mental illness/dangerous gifts, self-harm and suicide.

The theme of the third issue of Absent Cause zine is death, dying, and undeath.

Everybody dies. But in our underground and radical communities we often have very different ways of coping with death than the dominant culture.

What does the prospect of death mean to someone who’s lived through violent abuse? Chronic disease? Discrimination? Mental illness?

How does a revolutionary or artist contemplate what their contribution may mean after their death?

How do we express our fears, celebration, anger, and/or desire for death?

Can death be sexy?
