Hi Everyone,
I just started a new zine called
Bookstore Thief, after being out of the zine world for about 15 years. Back in the day I used to write a zine called
Every Girl's Dream. Anyhoo, this one is mostly bookstore adventures, as in working in them. One day I got robbed at gunpoint. And that is how this zine came into being. You can buy a copy at
my etsy shop, or I might be willing to trade for your zine. I like quirky stuff, perzines, comics, travelogues, drawing, and anything on language, like Katie Haegele's
lalatheory zine, which rocks.
I'll also be continuing this zine and in the next issue, I want stories from other writers about their bookstore days, or working in a library, or just something generally quirky or weird or interesting about your reading life. Read my
blog post about this and/or send me an email at findingjimmy@comcast.net. Loose deadline is Feb. 2009.
I'm also a diy-er and make altered thingies and ACEO's and whatnots. My blog chronicles my art adventures, but sometimes I go off on a long writing riff, because I'm both a writer and an artiste. Or crafter. Whatever. I like to make stuff. I just TIVOed this show on Ovation TV called
Everything is Art and the first thing they talk about is what is the difference between an artist and a designer. I've only been able to watch about 5 minutes of it so far (I have a toddler) but it looks fascinating. And like, where do crafters fit in there? Probably the bottom of the food chain. I make these ATC albums out of mini cereal boxes, and although I came up with the idea and "design," I'm pretty sure this would be classified as a craft. Because it's cheaply made? I wonder.
Anyway, happy to find this community and hope to meet some fun zinesters!
