We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

Hello FNBers,

Thanks very much for the great meal yesterday.

I've hesitated to do this, but I'd like just to make a few comments on your local FNB and my involvement with it.
I had the sense that my attempts at a face-to-face inquiry about FNB met with some discomfort from some members, so I thought it might go over better in writing.  We libertarians tend to be rather blunt and direct in our discussions, and maybe I came across as overbearing.  If so, my apologies.

I know that though I am a vegan and firm and long-time advocate of animal rights, and share some common ground with the punk culture---DIY, Just Do It, frugality, etc.---I know there are many areas where FNB and I have different beliefs, values and sensibilities.

Beginning in the APA (Amateur Press Association) The Libertarian Connection, I have followed the heated and interminable debate between libertarian anarchists and minarchists for years.  I believe in maximum freedom for the individual, but I've moved toward a position of neutrality and non-commitment toward anarchy.  I've read a lot about anarchy, so am fairly familiar with it.  I'm open-minded toward it, but it's not necessarily central to my own ideology or strategy.  I don't want to make this a point of contention, but just lay it on the table.
I don't care if a person involves themselves in institutions and heirarchies or vigorously shuns them.  To each his own.  I respect your own "non-heirarchical" community and methods of organization and will try to follow them at your feedings.

Do I belong in Food Not Bombs?  Does my involvement serve a purpose?  Are my beliefs and personality to different to make it fruitful?  I'm not sure at this point.  Feel free to frankly give your opinion.
If this facebook page is not a good place to discuss all this, by all means, let me.  I wanted to air this somewhere in the interest of mutual understanding, but didn't want to "go behind your back".
Here's a letter to an an left libertarian anarchist that might interest some of you:
