We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

Awkward Sex (Zine) ($4)- (perhaps) strangely, Awkward Sex is one of the most affirming zines I've read in a long time.
Flesh and Bone (Zine/Graphic Novel) ($6)- "An Ignatz-nominated comic book about tragic romance, Satan worship, graveyard masturbation, a cannibal witch, and sex with vegetables." Seriously.
Foxdye- Monsters of Meme (CD) ($10)- 14 tracks of in-your-face, meta-genre, internet-meme-filled, rave-tastic, intricately-chopped-to-pieces breakcore.
Joe Capoccia- Everything That’s Big Always Happens A Little At A Ti...- Joe Capoccia, who's played in so many great Olympia bands finally brings us a full length solo effort and it is beyond our wildest expectations.
My Love for You is Fathomless (Greeting Card) ($2)- A beautifully letterpressed card to express your adoration.
The Prince Zine (Zine) ($5)- A two-year long, 60 page, research zine into the artist currently known as Prince.
Rad Dad #19 (Zine) ($3)- This is the Rad Dad 'heavy topics' issue; its pages are concerned with talking to your kids about topics you might shy away from.
Shortandqueer #16: Interview With Grandpa Sabin (Zine) ($2)- What started as Kelly Shortandqueer's grandfather writing him a response letter to a speech he gave, turns into a 39-page interview with his grandparents.
Under the Arch: A DIY Guide to Reno (Book) ($6)- This little pocketbook is Reno through the eyes of people who have lived there their whole lives and LOVE it.
Without Words & Without Kneeling #5 (Zine) ($3)- Media misrepresentation, Mexican banda, Vegan Reich, and Crass all make appearances in this episode. Wu Tang even gets in on it.
Without Words & Without Kneeling #6 (Zine) ($3)- Parenting, idealism, the absent father, the role of a sperm donor, and the need for PJ Harvey in times of emotional crisis are all discussed within.
Zine World #30 (Zine/Magazine) ($4)- Articles by (our very own) Joshua James (Basic Paper Airplane), Candace (Sticky Institute), Lizzy (Marching Stars Distro), and Jerianne (Zine World editor) on the new Fanzines book! Plus Cindy Crabb (Doris) and Jerianne write two pieces on the current state of Microcosm.

2011 Organizer from Justseeds & Eberhardt Press (Planner) ($4)- marked down!

Criminal: Writings of Isabelle Eberhardt (Zine) ($4)

In Through the Window: A Collection of Poetry and Short Stories by ...
Loose Lips Sink Ships (Zine) ($2)
These Here Are Crazy Times #2 (Zine) ($2)

Foxdye- Monsters of Meme (off Monsters of Meme)
Joe Capoccia- The Beach at Night (off Everything That’s Big Always Happens A Little At A Time)

*March 12th will be Prince Zine release events galore. First a reading at Orca Books with readings from The Prince Zine and Alexis Wolf reading from Hyena in Petticoats: A Mary Wollstonecraft Zine. Then The Party Formerly Known as Prince, an all Prince-related dance party with games and costumes. Much fun to be had.
*With Well, I Don't See Why Not Vol 1 almost out of print and Well, I Don't See Why Not Vol 3 on the horizon, we made a Bandcamp page for these compilations, so as to facilitate the digital buying thereof.
*Foxdye's new Monsters of Meme was reviewed on KnowYourMeme.com, which led to over a thousand Foxdye-related hits in less than two days(!?).
*Olympia's own Nikki Sabalu (DIY or Don't We) made an awesome little video about how to make a zine. She's the coolest.
*The Radical Mycology folks are planning a Radical Mycology Convergence this summer, which you should check out if you are interested in mushrooms making you healthier, mushrooms saving the world through mycorestoration, and the like.
*Check out our own DJ Frederick (Signals)'s new One Minute Zine Reviews blog. He's tops.
*Radical Mycology and Awkward Sex were both featured on the website Jemibook.
*Basic Paper Airplane #3 was reviewed on My Girl Thursday.
*Our friend Billy did a video on the Chicago graffiti scene that's definitely worth checking out.
*Two of our dear (and very different, musically speaking) friends are touring in Europe right now. If you happen to be there, check out the breakcore rave party of Foxdye (touring with Th' Mole!) and bluegrass old-time footstompin' of The Blackberry Bushes. Those links go to tour dates, so if you're anywhere near, or are passing through their destinations, we'd highly recommend checking it out. There's also rumor of a Poppet and Kendl Winter one-off show in Berlin...which would be pretty amazing.
*March also brings Hollow Earth Radio's ever-fabulous Magma Fest. There's none better. Near Seattle? You must attend. A rare Polka Dot Dot Dot show will ensue, among much else (a traveling light rail show? yes).
Until next month, JJ/MVPD
