We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

July is almost over, but there's still fun stuff planned for this month! The Renegade Craft Fair is coming to Los Angeles July 24 & 25. Best of all, it's free! It's open from 11-7 both days, and though False Start won't be there, I know for a fact other zine/small press people will be! So check it out. July 30th Winners! Press is hosting a zine workshop, drawing party & film screening at 749 Ave 50 in Highland Park, Los Angeles. Zine festivities begin at 6 PM and the screening of ‘Ladies & Gentlemen the Fabulous Stains’ at 9 PM. And of course, it's free!

False Start's mailing address has changed! It is now 5334 Monte Vista St., Los Angeles, CA 90042 USA.

Hector J. Herrera's beautifully packaged and bound collection of 5 art and literary zines by 5 different Mexicali artists, Aqui No Hay Nada #2, is now available. Though the price tag may seem a little steep, once you get this work of art in your hands you'll be glad you bought it. Birdsong Micropress' literary zine, Birdsong #12, is new to the catalog and equally impressive! Not only are the stories within the pages beautifully crafted, but the entire zine is as well, hand bound, printed on high quality paper and with a color screen printed cover. Each zine also comes with 2 stickers and a pin.

Truckface #11 and Truckface #12 are back in stock, so if you didn't get a chance to scoop them up the first time around, do it now! Coming soon we've got the Philly Dudes Collective Zine, which chronicles the first year and a half of a group set up to explore masculinity and male privilege within the punk scene, how it functions and how to fix it. Check out these zines and more at False Start!

August 14th False Start will be hosting its first event at Meltdown Comics in Hollywood! Details are still being worked out, but all ya'll are the first to hear who will be there. Nopal, who's most recent show was opening for the screening of Jodorowsky's El Topo at The Museum of Latin American Art, will be playing their Mexican desert tunes. Magick Orchids, comprised of artist Champ and fellow distro owner Rhea, will be playing their weirdo electronic jams and The Littlest Viking will be rocking out!

In addition to music, there will be booze, food trucks (keep your fingers crossed) and of course, ZINES!!! If you are interested in tabling, please send an email to info@false-start.com and we'll figure it out. Bring your zines to trade! More details to come!
