a place for zinesters - writers and readers
I haven't been on We Make Zines in forever. But this year I decided to participate in the International Zine Month events and for the first day I had to sign into my account and write about this month.
I was looking forward to it for about six months now. I broke my elbow and had a surgery around late December and have been out of commission for way too long. I felt useless and couldn't engage in any extensive creative endeavors. But I'm better now and I am so excited for this month and having the opportunity to get creative again - try new zine-making techniques, new styles of writing, getting in touch with the worldwide zine community through letter writing, snail mail art and trades, and of course, participating in the 24-Hour Zine Thing challenge for the second year in a row, among many many other amazing activities!
Although I spent a few good posts on my blog lamenting the lack of a zine community in Jerusalem and not being able to attend any zine events, I might have actually found an opportunity for tabling my art and my zines in the center of town at Hataklit Bar on July 26. They're having a second-hand sale of CDs, vinyl records, thrift clothing, used books and some other stuff. I requested a booth for that event. If it works out, I will be there selling my zines, some Mistress Distress CDs, grrrlVIRUS t-shirts, and maybe some art from the Crafts for a Cause shop and donate the profits from these items to the Jerusalem Rape Crisis Center.
So yes, very very excited about the events this month!
I think everybody on We Make Zines should participate.
I will be back on We Make Zines again soon. I am dedicating a day in July to find a new zine or comix I have never heard of and trade. So I'm sure I'll find something awesome here.
You may follow my progress through the IZM activities on my blog.
