I made a new zine

Hi All! I just joined the We Make Zines board yesterday, and I have been reading and trying to find an appropriate way to make a post about my new zine... so I am writing this blog!

I used to be very involved in the zine community, and I wrote zines like "rock star with words", "the remainder of zero" and "there is still a chance for us". And in the late 90s I also made a lot of zines that I won't mention :) Anyways, it's been a few years since I've made a zine I've really put out there, and I wanted to make one again.

It's called "Roots of Hope"
It's little (1/8 legal 48pages) but I crammed a lot of text into it! It's pretty different from other things I've written, I think. It's mostly about how the last two years I mentored with "high risk teenagers" in the public school system and what I learned from them. I was in Americorps and there is a real focus on being a 'hero' in that, and trying to instead see myself and be an ally to them. Also about how I ended up using zine making as a tool for connecting with them... and how that led me back to zine making myself. And about my own personal growth and social anxiety and travels and healing and all that.

Anyways I am leaving to live in Nicaragua for a bit and travel various Spanish-speaking countries on Friday... so if you are interested in reading it I would prefer that it be ordered this week (before wednesday, even!) I want to do trades but it would probably mean you having to mail me the zine to Central America, so if you are cool with that, I'm cool with that. Send me a message or email and we can talk more about that.
