a place for zinesters - writers and readers
Wow, the META-COMICS issue is funded as of 8:55pm tonight. I'm completely overwhelmed by the generosity of all of the backers, and very glad I decided to take a chance and use Kickstarter to fund the project.
A few things I've learned so far:
1. Have a modest goal and provide a budget in your project description to show where the money will go.
2. Have reasonable reward levels. For this, $1 got a "thank you" in the zine, $5 a PDF of the issue, and $10 a dead tree copy of the issue. Don't make people pay too much to get a copy of the finished project, and offer more rewards as the levels increase.
3. Get over your discomfort and spread the word on Facebook, Twitter, via email, your blog, and message boards. You may feel a little bit sleazy trying to meet the goal, but people who want to help will, and everyone else will just ignore it.
4. Keep good records, send individual thank you messages to each backer, and post updates!
Wow. I just have the biggest grin on my face right now.
If you want to back the project, it's open until 9/15: META-COMICS ISSUE on Kickstarter
I really do think that this is going to be the way to fund creative projects, through crowdsourcing, especially if people see it as "pre-purchasing" the issue.
