a place for zinesters - writers and readers
I'm in my lower 30s and this decade I'm documenting in words (and sometimes in photos but mostly in words). I didn't intentionally put my 20s into photography (and my teens into visual art) but that's just kind of the way it turned out. This is the first time I'm intentionally writing personal stories towards future zine-making. Most of my zines are born from a concrete idea: to talk about something specifically, and then printed quickly.
Issue 0 is free, quarter-sized, and 64 pages full of mostly text. It has an 11-issue print run. I wrote and printed it before I came up with the name Exciteshroom and it sort of feels more like practice than anything else. Exciteshroom will have two issues a year, collecting 6 months worth of selected writings. The next issue will come together sometime in Summer '16.
In the Monster Hunter video game series, the exciteshroom is a mushroom hunters can eat while out on a quest. The effects are a gamble with both positive and negative outcomes, such as half your health lost, defense up, infinite stamina (for a short period of time), loss of stamina, etc. In a lot of ways, this is how my life goes... and in other ways, this is what a compilation of my writings becomes.
If anyone is interested in trading for Exciteshroom, I'm open to trading with other perzines of comparable size (30+ pages). Although the zine is full of words, rather than art and clippings, I'm open for different expressions of self. :)
Feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or just send your zine to PO Box 7505 / Alexandria, VA 22307 / USA. Please indicate that you're trading :) I get a lot of zines in the mail and I might mistake it for something I randomly ordered.
