a place for zinesters - writers and readers
It was another great time at the Chicago Zine Fest, but I almost didn't make it. The fest filled up on the first day of registration, and I had to get on a waiting list. Fortunately a spot opened up at the last week. Then I had to buckle down and finish my new zine that I'd begun slacking on.
I met some cool new zinesters at CZF, and saw some familiar ones from last year, and from the Milwaukee Zine Fest. The Junk Drawer table had the Guess the Odds & Ends game. There were 7 different zines available, including the latest issue, Junk Drawer #7, which is the second installment of Junk Drawer Landscape. This time, instead of having a junk drawer swap, I simply offered free junk drawer items. This idea came about when I was wait-listed, and thought I wouldn't have a table. I wanted to think of some other way Junk Drawer could participate at the fest. So, I thought of the mobile junk drawer, filled with odds and ends. During the last half hour, while I was busy at the table, the lovely Kat took the portable junk drawer, like a cigarette girl from the 1940's, and distributed free odds & ends. It went over pretty well. It was great to have something new at the fest. And now the portable drawer is ready for the next fest. Or anytime. We might just want to take the drawer to some random place and dish out the junk. Free odds & ends for all!
