Call for submissions! Bitch theme #4: the girl hate/ girl love edition

I have decided to subtitle the next comp issue of Bitch theme (Bitch theme #4), the girl hate/girl love edition. This is because I have been thinking a lot recently about girl hate/love and the way both affect my life, and the lives of other girls I know. I have written about it in previous issues of my zine, and I have talked about it in letters with zinester ladies all over the world. Girl hate and girl love are important topics that need to be talked about and discussed- how can we expect the world to stop putting us down, oppressing us, ridiculing us and judging us, when we do it to each other?

The problem with girl hate is that it is ingrained in us from an early age. When girls bitch at each other and hate on each other for no reason, it is not their fault, it is the way that they have been taught to behave- the way society has taught them to get ahead. I hope that this zine will explore these issues and go some way to helping us to start loving, not hating. I don’t want this zine to be full of preachy stories about girls who have managed to eliminate all the jealousy and the bitchiness, however. I want this zine to talk about our failures as well as successes, and show that none of us are perfect and we all make mistakes, but that the best we can do is try. Changing your entire mindset, and reversing a pattern that has been socialised into you from an early age is not easy, and I want this zine to acknowledge that.

Topics for submissions could include: your thoughts on girl hate/girl love and the way girls treat each other, why girl hate exists, what kind of girl hate you have been subjected to and why- and what did you do about it?, how girl hate makes you feel, how girl love makes you feel, how you try to eliminate girl hate from your life, how you try and include more girl love in your life, how you try and overcome jealousy, how you try and support other girls, and anything else you can think of that relates to this topic.

For this zine, I mainly want submissions of writing, but I will also accept artwork and anything else you may want to submit. I regret that I cannot accept finished pages. If you want to submit artwork, then email me and we can discuss it.

The deadline for this is March 2011.
