a place for zinesters - writers and readers
Harlo zinies -
Here is a version of what I wrote to get approved as a member. Looking forward to meeting new friends and swapping zines from here on out!
A little about me: I'm a 34-year-old writer who made the mistake of taking a corporate-soul-sucking job four years ago; am on leave of absence currently for three months trying to get back into my personal writing. I'm married to an artist and eventually we want to live a quiet, frugal existence making artist books and art.
I've been out of practice with my zine making but I've made two pretty cool ones - one in my mid-twenties that incorporated the writing and art of my friends at the time and one last year about mushrooms just because I had to do something to make me feel alive again (and because I found a new found love for mushrooms when I was 30). The type of zines that I'm interested in making and checking out include the following: 80s idol mania (aka River Phoenix and John Hughes films); seafood cookbook themes, secret crushes (I saw a member was looking for submissions for - yay!), germanophile types, francophile types, good writing, asian-american punk experiences and just the general down-home and hearty American/NorCal underground musings and visuals of its creative citizens.
I also am hoping to find some zines about unicorns and gnomes and if there aren't any out there, will create my own now that I have a little more time during the day. I love it all (except for hateful, misogynistic and xenophobic shit). Looking forward to rockin' it out at We Make Zines! Woot!
