a place for zinesters - writers and readers
The officers of the American Amateur Press Association have approved an annual grant in memory of Lee Hawes which will help amateur journalists / zinemakers in need of financial assistance to publish their zines and journals. The AAPA Lee Hawes Personal Journalism Grant will award up to $150 to help an amateur journalist to get their journal or zine into print.
In recent years, the cost of materials and maintaining a press has soared, and even desktop printing and photocopying can become expensive and prohibitive. It is our hope to provide a small amount of financial assistance while stimulating creativity.
The grant is open to AAPA members and non-members alike. Potential applicants will need to fill out and submit a request for proposal form by October 1, 2014. The AAPA officers will award the grant based upon the scope of the project and individual financial need. Journals or zines printed with grant funds will be expected to be included in a monthly AAPA bundle, which means a minimum of 170 copies of the journal or zine need to be printed.
Requests for Proposal forms may be obtained by sending me (DJ Frederick) an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by sending a SASE to: Peter Schaub 212 Ladybank Williamsburg VA 23188.
