We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

The more I delve into this project the more I realize I am very confused by it. I don't understand what I'm doing half the time. I plan to write a few stories and I have a few topics and section ideas lined up- the only thing I have to do is figure out how to put it together. I know now why Zine making is tought in college courses and in middle schools. Its hard. If anyone could shed light on my overwhelming situation I'll send you free copies of the first issue. Just leave an address- consider it a "trade" in the Zine World meaning of the word.

I don't know where you are in the process, but one thing that helped me get started 'way back when' was creating a blank draft with only the number of pages I was striving to fill. I then numbered those pages and began writing and sketching out what should go on each page in order to gauge the flow.

Now so many years later, I still start off knowing the goal page count and work to fill the zine based on that. It also helps by building the publication one page or section at a time. And even though I do most of my work on my computer, it still helps the visualization process by having something I can hold in my hand.

I should also say that, even though I consider myself an old hat at making zines, it can still be a little overwhelming every single time I try make 'something outta nothing.' But the payoff in the end makes it all worthwhile.

Let me know what exactly you need help with and I'll do my best to help out. Are you doing a cut and paste zine or are you doing it in a program? I was a bit lost when making my first zine too so I completely understand :)
