2009 Zines 101 A zine making workshop SUCCESS!!!!

Wooohoo!!!The zine workshop today was great! No that's an understatement, it was.......SUPER! We were seven strong, mostly friends/acquaintances who frequent the cafe we were at. I was a little nervous despite knowing everyone....okay so i was really nervous. I gave a brief talk on the history of the zine, asked a question or two around the table, then we got sticky! After browsing some zines in my collection to get everyone acquainted with the numerous possibilities at their disposal (trying to emphasize that there is no wrong way) we started the cut n paste frenzy! Every did one half-page layout, or a whole if they were real ambitious(we had a small group after all). I worked on the cover and intro to tie everything together while others worked on the main content. At first i had no idea what to do and started to worry that i was going to come up with the lamest, most half-assed thing EVER. Surprisingly though, after cuttin some stuff out and feeding off the energy in the room, i found a direction and got inspired. Whew! I was totally saved by everyone's energy! Music was the only thing missing from the equation, I'll have to remedy that next time. Even though everyone was a bit shy at first, i think we all got more comfortable as the workshop got well under way. Starting at 5, ending around 7 we had finished our monster, needing only to put the juice on and fire it up! Cut. Create. Paste. Copy. This was a great learning experience for me and i hope for everyone involved. We all went away with a zine in our pockets (Jen bird had to leave early so her copy is waiting) and hopefully some inspiration in our hearts(awww)! I'm so stoked that i stepped out on a limb despite fear and embraced the DIY spirit that zines embody! I look forward to doing more workshops to promote the DIY culture here in Vegas where its SORELY needed! THANK YOU ALL SOOO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND PARTICIPATION!!!! I will have a link up soon so you can see the final product!
For now check out the pictures!
Bless up
Peace in
