As I'll be 50 in a couple of weeks, I thought it might be interesting to put together a second issue of "Crone" and base it around ageism. So, I'll write a list of questions and see if I can get some over 50 zine folks to answer them. Could be interesting!

I've not been around much lately. My mother died in november and I've found it hard to get on with things. I think I'm slowly getting back to normal, but it's taking a while. Sorry if I've not sent zines to people I promised them too. Give me a reminder and I'll get on with it.

I've had a bit of a daft idea. You know that it's international zine month, next month? Well, I had the idea of making a minizine (that is, one A4 page folded into 8) for each day. I don't know if I'll manage it, but I'll try to do at least enough for half of the month. If I do any more I'll be so chuffed with my little self!
Of course I'll be up for trades for them at the end of the month, along with my 24 hour zine. In the meantime, Estrones 2 is all done and ready to go!… Continue

I can';t believe it's taken me so long, but then I was never very good at layout or anything vaguely to do with maths, shapes and all that kind of thing. But I've finally worked out how to lay out a minizine using Microsoft Publisher. All I did was create a table, with 4 columns and 2 rows, then put text boxes into each cell. Once I'd filled up a cell on the top half of the table (in landscape of course), I rotated the text box.
And that's it! It's so simple. I spent a long… Continue

Okay, so I've got it now. I'll keep Estrones as a small size zine, and it will be partly handwritten, part typed on a computer. And Looks Like Rain will be a bigger, separate perzine. Okay, I think that's what I'll do. Until tomorrow when I'll probably come up with a different plan! Butterfly mind? Who? Fi?!
Meanwhile, I have had a zine week with some lovely zines in the letter box. (I have an American style postbox on the front wall, so the postman doesn't… Continue

I've been thinking, as you do, about changing the title of my perzine. Estrones is Welsh for alien woman, but it's not obvious, unless you siarad Cymraeg. (Yes, okay, I'm being clever. It means speak Welsh.) So I've been considering changing it to "Alien Woman".
It shouldn't be too confusing. I've only put one issue out so far, so it's not going to muck up anyone's cateloging system. So what do you think? Name change or not? And yes, I'm in two minds which is not surprising given that… Continue

I ordered some zines from marchingstars and vampiresushi. Oh and etsy. I haven't had any new zines in yonks. I've finished the children's literature course I've been doing since october last year, with the Open University. It will be october again before I start the next course (on creative writing) and I now want something different to read from children's books and text books.
I also plan to do the second issue of Estrones. So, if I promised you a copy of the first one, or you'd… Continue

Yes, at last I have finished Crone
! It's 20 pages A5 and is a more, I would say, literary zine than Estrones
. It has a piece about getting older, a recipie, a story written by me, another short article, an article about the four daughters of the late Tsar from the "Girls' Realm" magazine of 1901 and an article about Lady Charlotte Guest (one of my heroes).
My husband took it with him to London today and he'll be photocopying it at work. (My worries that he wouldn't be… Continue

I know, I haven't finished Crone
yet. I've had a couple of set backs. We were without the 'net for a week while BT dickered about with the broadband. It took just about six calls a day to the helpline in India before it was finally fixed. I was gnawing the furniture in the meantime.
However, I managed to entertain myself by dislocating and breaking the little toe on my left foot. Don't ask how. My husband and daughter joke that I could cut myself on the air, I'm that clumsy.… Continue

I'm trying to race ahead with Crone
as my husband wants to get it printed next week. Monday and tuesday are his last days at HSBC and his last chance to print it. The situation with photocopyng at the Home Office is up in the air. He reckons it'll be fine; I'd rather not risk it for a while because, ya know, the Home Office
. But I did go to a photocopiers in Machynllyth. I didn't really get the full details: there was a police officer in there, interviewing the shop owner about… Continue

I got "Stolen Sharpie Revolution 2" in the post today, through the CornDog distro. I love it; from the size of it, to the content and the way it's laid out. It's a gorgeous book and I can see it being useful for quite a while.
But, there was one sentence that rather annoyed me. It's on page 57 and is the last sentence: "They are also a great way to keep your parents from reading your mail." I'm a parent. I'm 48 and my daughter is 22 and I would never, ever
dream of opening her… Continue

Well, the first issue of Estrones
is done. I have a neat pile of 50 copies, all with individual covers: no two alike! Now that it's done, I can see problems. Such as, the lack of a proper way to end it. It just, well, ends. Note to self: write a proper last page, don't just leave it like that. And *facepalm* I managed to have two pages printed the wrong way around. It's a list of 48 things about me (as i am 48), but something went a bit backwards between putting it all together on word.… Continue

I've finished my assingment for the Open University course I'm doing. Deadline was today, so of course, I was just really getting into it today! But it's done, tradition as the justification for religious innovation in English Christianity, discuss with 2 or 3 examples. Phew!I actually really enjoyed writing it.
Anywa, now that it's finally done, I can get on with Estrones. And maybe Crone as well.

I bought a very pretty box in Machynllyth yesterday. I wasn't looking for a box to keep zines in, honestly! But it's so cute and those quarter size zines fit into it nicely. It's dark blue with flowers on it, and a picture of two cats on the lid. And i have a zine collection! I got three issues of Telegram Ma'am
and two of Culture Slut
from MarchingStars, and a copy of Fanzine Yfyntyn
and Imaginary Uncles
I'm still doing Crone
, but I've also… Continue

I've decided to make a zine, after donkey's years of doing nothing. A few apazines don't count. I came up with the title Crone
, since I'm 48. I'm also working on some little minizines, those 8-pagers. That might be fun! I really need to see some zines though. Not that I want to copy or anything like that, but sometimes it does help to see what's out there.
I found a few zines I have in my collection of SF fanzines. Blimey! Were we really so young! And always depressed and… Continue
