We Make Zines

a place for zinesters - writers and readers

Sandy's Blog (14)

Ta ta for now!

Beep. It's been ages since I last came here. And I don't see this place in my near future - not with all the busywork (and computer games) I've got piling up. To anyone reading who I've spoken to on this site, thanks for making my months here fun and fruitful. If you'd like to get in touch about creative things, hit me up on twitter @sandysandy.

I made a thing so you can do your thing

Hi, I made you this: http://bit.ly/zinestock

It's a collection of pictures that zinesters can use for free for backgrounds and textures. I like to take pictures, and they may as well be useful for someone instead of sitting around stale on my hard drive.

I'll keep adding to this as I take more. Currently,…

Perth zine scene and mélange #3 update

What a lovely surprise to see this community thriving still, as the last time I was here, it was possibly going to shut down because of Ning fees. Yeah, that’s how long it’s been. Hi, everyone. J I hope you’ve been well.

A couple years ago, I did an email interview with grrrlzines and they asked me what the zine scene was like in Perth. Back then, there was no zine scene, just a handful of scattered individuals who enjoyed playing with paper and glue, and the odd indie shop…

Dreams

Working on mélange #3 has been a very odd 7-month journey for me through frustration, despair, doubt, understanding, eating my own words and finally, closure. I think it may have been the reason for the zine-infused dream I had last night.

This dream took place at my parents' home, which I haven't lived in for 8 years. I was in my bedroom looking for a scarf, opened a drawer and found an old zine I'd made.

This zine doesn't actually exist,…

All quiet on the zine front lately. At least for me. Been wanting to make powderbox 3, but so much has happened since powderbox 2 that I don't know where to begin. Maybe I'll forego the catchup and just do something informative and novel. We'll see.

mélange #3 is about 1/3 done. I've got most of the writing done - just gotta carve it into a nice shape now. I'm actually looking forward to the end of the mélange series. Yes, there is an end. Can't quite see it yet, but there…

My zine, mélange, and what the hell I was thinking.

Heh, I'm a turd. After doing not very much promotion of mélange #2, I've started work on mélange #3. Yeah, the mood found me. I feel more confident about, well... myself, what I want to say, and how I want to say it.…

presented and told

Been reading a lot of really good zines lately. Been tempted to start reviewing them, but then I wonder - do we really need another opinionated voice, tainted by personal taste; does anyone other than the zinester herself (or himself) care what I think about a zine?

Anyway, it's been refreshing and cathartic to read people's personal experiences, presented in a somewhat careful and artistic format, especially when they to some extent mirror my own sentiment. A copy of…

together we will conquer

just finished mélange #2. can't believe how much energy i've put into this one. it's nothing like what i pictured when i first started, and i'm tickled by what this might say about how the "creative process" works. thinking about where my head has been while making it is making me feel very tired. gonna sit on it for a bit, clear my mind. hope to have it in print and circulating in a couple of… Continue

have i told you where i've been, and the things that really matter?

I won't lie, I'm still buzzing from the single launch. Months of sincere effort has now produced something to be proud of. Although, when I say "effort", I mean I just rocked up when I was supposed to when I was supposed to. DJ NU put in the real hard yards, and I'm so grateful to have been a part of it.… Continue

oh wow, a whole section on blogs?

Hah. Spot the Ning noob. Only just found this entire section for blog posts. Woopsie.

Spose I should write a little bit in here. Been working on mélange #2. Almost 2/3 of the way through - hoping to have it finished in the next couple of months. Yeah, I know that's slack, but I like to take my time with zine projects - put some thought into them. Don't know if that comes across, particularly when the iterations of editing result in something minimal. But I suppose art is like a… Continue

is this thing on?

Recently-ish finished my first-in-a-long-time perzine mélange. Can't really count my little room as a recent perzine, as it took a year to complete, and it's more of an artpiece.

Lorem ipsum dolor, trying out this blog system. Ain't bad so far.
