a place for zinesters - writers and readers
Well, a lot of shit has been going down in Jerusalem and I didn't get to any of the last IZM activities as a result.
On Wednesday night, I went to a show at a local bar with my husband. That was kind of a waste because we thought it was supposed to be a progressive metal show. Instead it turned out to be totally emo and our ears were bleeding so we left early but the night was already over by then.
On Thursday, right after work, I went to the Jerusalem…Continue

So my dog is finally doing much better, thanks the Goddess, which means that I can get on with my IZM!
The activities I missed out on are:
1) Submit something to a compilation zine: I'll have to ask/look around for such.
2) Cook with a recipe from a zine: I think I recall seeing a cool vegan recipe in one Amber's Fight Boredom zines.
3) Post photo of me with my zine: That's today's activity. I should have no problem doing that!
I should haul ass…Continue

This time it really wasn't so much a zine event as it was a meeting with a friend at my house for a night of art and stuff.
But I did get a chance to work on my zine. I also changed my typewriter ink ribbon and the script looks so much clearer now!
Sadly, my dog was coming down with a coughing virus which made her throw up a bunch of phlegm all night. At least that's what the vet said this morning when we took my dog there after freaking out the entire night. I didn't sleep a…Continue

I got some stuff done yesterday mostly related to snail mail. I wrote a letter to my penpal, made a package of zines for trade and packed another box of zines to be sent to Boston for the zine fest.
So not much zine production but I got some stuff done anyway. That's besides the fact that I got my flight tickets to Boston!!!!! Haha!
Anyway, today, Day 27, I'm having a friend over for an art night, so I hope to get a move on with my zine.
More on that later on :-)

I haven't found one yet. I mean, I know how to make a perzine, cut and paste, a fanzine, a compilation zine, a zine designed by hand and on computer, a mini zine complete with the folds and whatnot, a post-its zine, a photobook...
About a week ago, I had the idea of making a "silent" zine, that is a zine that is made up of photos, drawings, collages and comics, and that has almost no words at all.
I think this is the zine "skill" I'm gonna teach myself. I don't know if it's…Continue

I had to make a one page zine on July 23, which I assume is a mini zine. so I decided to take that opportunity to make my own "mini zine" which I actually call a post-its zine because it's made out of a small stack of post-it notes. This zine is my End of Words zine about nonsense and it's the third issue of it, some of which is written in aweful broken German. I was planning on doing it on the 23, but that day was spent on a longass bus ride from Jerusalem to Be'er Sheva…Continue

Since I skipped "visiting your local zine library" day (since there are none in Jerusalem) and found myself with a free day, I decided that I should work on the split zine I'm doing with my Boston friend.
But then, this morning, after reading a piece I wrote a while back about writing and composing songs, I felt a bout of inspiration and decided to pick up my guitar and play for the first time since I broke my elbow (two years ago)! I loved it so much and realized just how much I've…Continue

I went to the post office today and mailed out a bunch of awesome stuff to awesome people. I was also planning on mailing out some of my zines to the Barnard Zine Library in honor of today's activity, but didn't do it at the end and here's why:
Last night, I chatted with Jenna Freedman who runs said library and asked her if she would be interested in cataloging some of my recent zines. When I told her I can send it to her, she said that I can also give it to her in person during the…Continue

I don't really know who to give the zine to, so I posted a status on my Purple Myrtle Squeegy page saying that the first person to comment on the post will be getting a free zine. No one has commented yet (that's a hint hint for you, reader!)
If by tomorrow, there are still no takers, I'll try the same post on my Facebook profile, which people see more often anyway.
Meanwhile, tonight I'll be writing a few letters and preparing a…Continue

Today, I ordered a zine from Marching Stars Distro which is actually closing down.
I remember submitting some earlier issues of Fallopian Falafel to this distro in the past but I don't ever recall actually buying any other zines from there. So I decided to go for it today.
It seems cool. I hope the zines I ordered are just as good as the ones I got last week from Vampire Sushi Distro.
As a side note, I set this upcoming Tuesday as my post office day. So all the packages…Continue

I'm still all groggy and "jet-lagged" from the 24-Hour Zine Thing. This explains why I'm doing this activity now and not yesterday when I was supposed to be doing it.
I recently traded zines with Beth a.k.a Squimoo. She sent me a copy of her first zine/comics called The Deadbeats.
As I already told her in a message I wrote to her the other day, when I got the zine, I was just going to flip through it a bit and read it later, as I was in the office and didn't really have much…Continue
I cleared out the activities for these two days so that I can devote all my time to work on my 24-Hour Zine. I'm so excited for it. And after that, I'll probably need some time to sleep.
So in that case, I'm leaving "review a zine online" and "ordering from a different distro than normal" for next week. Anyway, I just received some new zines today, so once I'm done with the 24HZT and with subsequent sleep, I'll read them and review them. There's no doubt in my mind that they'll be…Continue

I did that on 2013 as well and never got a response from the zine distro that I sent my zine to. That was sad. So I hope this year is better.
I have a couple of zine distros in mind, but I'm waiting to hear from one I've been in touch with earlier this year. We'll see how it works out. I may not do any activity tonight as I am completely busted from this morning's errands. And besides, I am looking at my 24-Hour Zine Thing to start tomorrow night. So I need to catch up on some sleep…Continue

I'm not really a romance freak and I kinda find Valentine's Day to be a complete bore. Anyway, living in Israel, nobody really celebrates it. But ValenZine's Day! Now, that's a holiday worth celebrating! Gotta love my zines and totally adore my zine crushes!
Although I skipped an activity, I wanted ValenZine's Day to fall on the 14th, so I switched it with the activity that came before it (Sending a zine to a distro for consideration)
Last night, I wrote a short letter to my…Continue

I tried doing that in 2013, but I really didn't have the courage to do it. I don't know why... I mean all the zines I sent/traded/shared/sold were mostly given to people from overseas who I don't even know. That is, strangers. But I still knew their name and their address. Leaving my zine in a public place just seems so... I don;t know, impersonal?
Also, I would never know what would happen to such a zine.
But yesterday, I actually got over my fear and left a copy of PMS issue…Continue
This is actually pretty cool! I already have a new zinester's address and as far as I know, they already sent me their zine, so I just have to make the package and send mine too!
This is fun! I can't wait to read someone else's new zines! My zine collection box will love me for it.
The truth is I have absolutely no idea where to find zinesters that actually review zines. So yesterday, I just made a package with no name or address on it so that I can fill it in when I actually do find someone.
I wrote a message on the Zines A Go Go group on Facebook and waiting for a response. I also looked it up online. I came across the Spill the Zines website, which I had already heard of before. It's a Zine Review site but apparently, they are not taking anymore requests for…Continue

I was going to skip this activity too and work on my zine instead, but I totally forgot to photocopy all the flyers and material I have to be used as backgrounds for my zine. And since I already finished the writing part, and just need to make the layout, I got stuck with no material for layout at all. So I went ahead and worked on some mail art instead.
I had to edit some of my postcards with the new URL for my Etsy shop since I changed the name of it from Hadass420 (which really…Continue

Yesterday, my husband printed a bunch of copies of my PMS zines that I needed to mail out to Boston to have it ready for the zine fest coming up in October. I hope to be tabling there with my friend, Dawn, which will totally rule.
So the package I made yesterday wasn't really a care package but just a package of zines.
But I made a mental note to make one at some point this week.
I got some sweet ideas for stuff to include in the package, which I won't detail here…Continue

The activity was to write a letter to a zinester that I don't know. And since it didn't specify whether it was a current zinester, and whether it had to be someone I REALLY don't know, I wrote to my new penpal Alexis who is a former zinester. We've had only a single mail correspondence, never met in person, and she actually had to go digging around her old stuff to find her old zines.
I have yet to send out my letter, but I have a few other packages to organize, including the care…Continue
