New Zine Available - In Praise of Winter

My zine "In Praise of Winter" is now in the Etsy shop. It's a short, sweet, illustrated zine about why I have come to look forward to the post-holiday winter months. Maybe it would be a nice break for you from the heat!

Here is a blog…

Are you Ready for WMZ to change it's Appearance? Tell me your thoughts

So, a few years ago I tried to change the appearance of WMZ and it changed everyone else's personal profile pages. I freaked out and changed it back.

I realize this site has looked exactly the same since 2008. Do you like that or not like it?  if I change to a different older theme we can keep personal pages the same. But, If I do a new updated theme (which I assume are much better)  you'll lose your personal layouts.

Now is your time to give me your opinion. Do…

Read about the Zine and Punk Scene in Southeast Asia and Australia

This is the review I wrote on Good Reads for Dave Roche's new book If Nothing But the Sky

As a rule I am not a huge lover of travel books or zines. They often have too little personal observations and thought provoking thoughts and often become just a list of we met these people and then we went here and craziness ensued or we ate this and found this out of the way place aren't we amazing?

Dave Roche's modest book about his zine tour trips to Australia and Southeast…

Tell me about your excruciating pre-teen celebrity crush....

Did you have a tweener heart breaking crush with some teen idol? What was the kookiest thing you did in the name of your crush? For possible zine. Can I do it in a month?

Feel free to pm the story to me if you want. Thanks!!

Why do we do it? What Makes a Zine Maker?

This is a good time to share with you this post I did in 2009 on my blog.

I am currently working on a zine right now, as most of you are, and this is something I wrote in the midlst of a zine making marathon:

MinI-Zine Review: These Here are Crazy Times #2

I always mean to write a bunch of zine reviews together and I never do, so I think I will do a series of mini zine reviews here.

The other night I read These Here are Crazy Times #2 by Sarah May.

Here is her We Make Zines profile, but there isn't too much on it. I think I got her zine from Ms Valerie…

Seeking Zine Workspace Artwork for WMZ

Do you have a photo or can you draw a neat header like image that shows a zine work space? You know, paper, scissors, cut images and text, glue, etc...

I am thinking of using it for a We Make Zines redesign.  I would like the image to be a little vague in the content of the zine so can seem a general zine layout instead of looking very much like a certain zine. Make sense?

As for size, not sure exactly, but I'm guessing about 750 x 300. No need to include the name We…

I just read one of the best perzines I have read in a long time

It's Sub Rosa 1 by Taryn Hipp. Taryn has done zines for a long time and I think I read her old one Girl Swirl, but I hadn't read her newer one. Sub Rosa 1 is still pretty old. She is currently working on Sub Rosa 6.

Anyway, here is why this zine was so good. You know how when you and a friend are talking about real life stuff and it gets very deep and you or they end up spewing out a whole bunch of fears and confessions… Continue

what makes a zinester

I posted this on my blog, but wanted to post it here too. Thanks to all of you for "getting it".

I am tired and need to wind down for tonight, but I wanted to post this while it was fresh in my head.

Driving to Kinkos tonight at 11:30 pm I thought what is it with me that makes me use my precious vacation time to stay home and make a zine? What is it that makes me stay in my house for 48 hours and work by myself on some folded pieces of paper?

I don't know… Continue
