Two Poems on Poverty

Two Poems on Poverty

I had

a bowl once

but it filled up

with dust

my ribs

stick out

empty spoons

I used

to smell bad

but even that

ran away

a penny?

a penny?

it’s too heavy to hold…

From Han Shan

This poem is my version of #25 from Han Shan’s Cold Mountain

The swaying grain is not yet ripe

my bowl is empty with the last of the old

I… Continue

This week's quizzical quiz question

The answer to, and winner (if any) for, our last contest question of:

Who wrote the Cowboy Code:

The Cowboy must never shoot first, hit a smaller man, or take unfair advantage.

He must never go back on his word, or a trust confided in him.

He must always tell the truth.

He must be gentle with children, the elderly, and animals.

He must not advocate or possess racially or religiously intolerant ideas.

He must help people in distress.

He must be… Continue

10 Years of Christmas Stories in Zine Musea

Dear Reader,

Musea has an annual tradition - a Christmas story for the December issue. Did you miss any of them?

There is a lot I like to put into each short story, and not much room to squeeze it into - only 8 pages per Musea issue, with the front page being a photo! That means everything has to happen in 7 pages.

I try to write, so that each story first HAS a story, a good plot. Then some interesting characters caught up in something challenging, some… Continue

Snow Poems

Snow Poems

the fire
went out
the cold
came back

billions of stars
fall as snow
and sink through the trees
to the forest floor

white chipped walls
and snowing outside

white rabbit

melting snow
on the water

each ant carries
one flake away

flakes melt
the snowman's gone

3 New Quatros

some rhyme ...
no reason

open and shut
in and out

raven dove
same sky

What is a QUATRO. It’s a new type of very very short poetry that usually compares two things, in a haiku – way, packing a lot of meaning in a very small amount of words. There is usually a very real comparison, and behind it a 2nd deeper meaning. Pass your favorites around if you want
