Gah!

I can't believe how long it's been since I updated things here. Since I last added photos or wrote, I've provided illustrations for a reading of "Herbert West, Re-Animator" at Monster Island Resort Podcast. (You can look and listen here: http://0316bfc.netsolhost.com/blog/?p=923). I had some of them made into postcards, which I'm selling at my Etsy shop.

I'm hoping to be able to start making more Monstress again, now…

Bringing More Wrong

I can tell that somewhere deep inside me I've already begun "Good Night, Cephalopod." I've already got the text and have been kind of stuck on the drawings--and distracted by life. But I'm getting that drawing feeling. This will be my second zine done entirely in colored pencil.

on the cusp

i organize every monstress around a central monstrous theme and this time, i'm torn between two, "witchiness" and "ape attack!" i already have a bunch of reviews of movies where the horror is built around old women (bette davis' entire late career) but i'm having trouble with writing the other stuff. every issue also has chapters of a pulp fiction story in it and for "witchiness" i'd like to write something kind of agatha christie or dorothy sayers for the fiction. but writing in that style… Continue

4 Monsters Photo Album

so i deleted the blog post with the pictures of the monsters i drew for the Lucky Creature Attacks coloring book. the in process photos of all the drawings are in the 4 monsters photo album, including a couple of scans. i've sent all the images to scott. i'm at the part of the process where i do not like looking at my work, which is another reason to move it off my main page.

now i'm experimenting with digitally darkening the lines of the faun drawing using Gimp.

Independence Day

I feel stupid for saying it--well, more for feeling it: I'm feeling homesick today and it's partly because it's the Fourth of July, a holiday I've always been kind of ambivalent about. Anyway, have some fun, some fireworks and watch the sunburn for me, while I celebrate my Independence. Maybe I can rustle up some Loyalists in downtown Toronto.
