LIBRARIES UNDER THREAT OF CLOSURE

It may not be happening in your neighbourhood yet, but if the UK manage to close down all of it's branch libraries because of so-called cost cutting, it could happen anywhere. Please support this by sharing with others.

Call for contributions to a new Zine Library, opening soon in Bristol!

I feel rather bad that my first post here is going to seem so shamelessly commercial in nature, but I'm in the process of setting up a zine library in conjunction with a shop called SHOP here in Bristol, and we're canvassing for donations and contributions.

All the information is posted below:

Zinesters! We’re putting out a call for donations to help set up a new Zine Library at SHOP Vintage Lounge and Arts Venue in…

Multnomah County Library is the best!!

So, I was pleasantly surprise when I went to my local library-- Multnomah county's Hollywood branch-- and found that they have started a zine exchange! Now, not only do they carry zines in many branches and offer a bunch of great zine info online, but they also facilitate zine trades!! They had a box below the zine shelf full of zines for trade on the honor system, like many book-borrowing… Continue

Zine Exhibit at University of Washington Graduate Library

Yesterday I put up a month long exhibit in the lobby of the University of Washington Graduate Library (Suzzallo/Allen to locals). It was a bit tough aiming it at mostly people that might not know what a zine is as well as trying to add books to the collection about radical and zine cataloging encouraging librarians to collect zines in academic library collections (during March the ACRL conference, as well as the Zine Librarian Unconference, will be taking place in Seattle). It was also hard to… Continue

Thanks for creating this!

Hi, all. I'm Kelsey, and I live in Olympia. I've made a few zines in my life, and made even more artists' books. Mostly, though, I'm just a big fan of zines and a zine librarian. I created a zine collection for my library (Olympia Timberland Library) this year. We have over 200 zines in the collection so far, and it's growing slowly as time goes on. Anyhow, just wanted to introduce myself and thank Krissy for putting this forum together. I'll be looking to buy new zines for the library in our… Continue

Sandwich, NH now has circulating zines in its library!

Another year, another batch of zine work in this small town I call a vacation spot.

There are now 60 zines in the Samuel H. Wentworth Public Library in Sandwich, NH, and you can check them out just like a book!

I'm proud to put them on the cutting edge, but worried that the zines won't be taken seriously (they haven't been so far, even by the librarians, grrr). I posted to the town email list with a big rah-rah description and will hope for the best.

Next summer… Continue
