Female Empowerment

I know this is meant to be a blog post, but I can only hope that someone reads it.

I am trying to start another mini-zine (my other mini-zine is a perzine called Army of Her) called Grrrl Power and it's all about female empowerment. I feel that with the everyday bombardment by the media, women are feeling more and more isolated as higher and increasingly impossible standards are expected of them, as well as, not being expected to succeed. Junk Drawer zines in an environmental themed art show

A couple of my Junk Drawer zines are currently in an art exhibit about mass consumption and the environment. It's taking place at AE Studios LIC, in Queens, New York. There is a Junk Drawer display at the “The Opportunity Shop” in Hyde

Park in Chicago.

The shop is a temporary experimental project space. It is located in a former Hollywood Video store that has been totally redone as a community art center.

Dipping my toes into the zine-making water...

Don't know if you get many people on here just entering into the whole dipping-my-toes-into-the-water phase of zine making/reading (i'm attempting to do both) but my first attempt at making my own zine turned out...let's just say, amateurish. Truthfully, i mishmoshed it all together collage-style (clippings from magazines and papers) in two days, and put it together with a paper-mache-like glue, and thread binding.
