Musea Email Club #491 Stuckism

Zine illustrators - this is something for you.

Dear Reader,

This time I'm going to look at the revolution in art and talk about Stuckism.

Stuckism is an international art movement started in Britain in 1999 by Billy Childish and Charles Thomson. It strongely opposes the abuses of modern art. The group's ideas sounded much like my own and I wanted to contact them.

I did. I suggested some of my own work protesting modern art abuses, and I got a couple… Continue

Musea E-mail Club #487 Banned Books is Kid's Stuff

Reader,

Scenario: I've got a copy of the 'Secret Garden' that I loved reading as a child. IF I give this copy to a child now in 2009 .... I've broken the law and can face a $100,000 fine or time in jail. And sadly I am not kidding.

No, 2009 is not 1984, but it seems close. This is so outrageous that I wonder how it got past America? But it did. And it's the law.

The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA), is a law passed by congress in August 2008 in response… Continue

Musea E-mail Club #485 Scorecard for Control of Art and Media

The scorecard for control of the arts and media is:

CORPORATIONS everything,

INDIES, less than ever.

Let's go category by category and see who controls it - Corporate art or Indy art.

Media - Corporate Art. Corporate owns the bulk of tv, and radio. They have way too much influence on the FCC, and NPR, with revenue sharing won't give a tough review. Indies can't get coverage or reviews; and have little coverage on any tv or radio. Indies can rarely even get a radio… Continue

New Version of Book Art- MINI!

Having done a lot of research into the world of zines, and the unfortunate discovery that printing an A5 full colour zine is not at all cheap, I've spent today mucking about with layout and print settings and have finally managed to squidge Book Art into a much smaller, envelope friendly size. Much cheaper to print, easier to post, and the pictures still look lovely.

Feel so much better ;)

As it was she was holed up in her studio on Saturday 9th August striking BAD ATTITUDES, ie. striking attitudes (poses) very badly in the style of french actress and legendary Pussy Power… Continue
