Witnessing 9/11 from Overseas by Kristoffer Mininger

After lunch we had an hour of free time before getting back to our farm duties. On this particular day James and I had gone down to the dried-up lake bed to check the sheep for maggots. It seems odd now that this was something we did in our free time.

After the break, James ran into town to borrow some carpentry tools. I went down to “the slats” to check on a sick cow. I was tossing fresh straw around the… Continue

LOOKING FOR ZINES COVERING STORY-TELLING, THE SOLAR SYSTEM AND/OR AN ESOTERICAL THREAD..

Hello zinesters!

Here at Fallyrag we're putting together plans for our Winter Solstice edition (22/12/08) and are looking to review a zine that fits this mold. We'd like to feature a zine that includes either story-telling, the stars (and the solar system), or has a spiritual, esoterical thread.

No fat red santa clauses / father christmases / or Coca-Cola related works!

Look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards, Jon

I want to stock new zines!

After an inspiring weekend at Ladyfest Manchester and a very seriously dented distro stock I have decided it is time for new zines, lots of them.

marching stars distro (www.marchingstars.co.uk) is a 16 month old UK based distro which has hopefully now proved it has staying power in these unstable distro times.

Zines that I choose to stock I am 110% behind and I so take seriously my role of helping to get zines out there in the world to the right people. Oh, and I freaking… Continue

Dancing

Most afternoons I put on my favourite music and have a dance. Today it was to the Ministry of Sound Annual 2006, such a classic album. I bought it for a ski trip to Beaver Creak USA, Nothing quite like double diamonds to a thumping beat, I highly recommend it for mogals. Personally, I don't see the appeal, powder is so much better.

Each to their own.

Ten (the boyfriend/bestie) figured out how to PDF-ify my Portfolio. My email address is emerald_arts@hotmail.com if you want… Continue

Since I'm on a bit of a zine kick lately and had a few proposals to write up, I thought I would create a portfolio of my artworks in zine format to send out with applications.

If anyone wants to see a copy and leave me feedback I would be beyond grateful, seriously, eternal… Continue

Q&A with Dom Hall, editor of CAP {printed in Art Bureau 16}

For artists reading this who might be thinking of approaching your publication with their art, what are you looking for and how do you find and choose your artists?

It's a combination of looking at work which readers have sent in and actively looking for new talent. We do this through trawling through sites such as Illustration…

Ah!

I'm so sorry! I've been super busy with work and preparing for NaNoWriMo! I can't freaking believe it!

I know that there were two pre-orders that I received in the mail weeks ago for Darling Disaster No. 1. FINALLY I got the damn thing copied! I'll be sending out those two orders tomorrow as I'm trying to get other things ready and go to work later today.

I would like everyone to know that a page went missing. The morning that I took everything to copy, my original decided… Continue

Word: a Celebration of font and text exhibit

So, I tired to post this in the events section and it wouldn't work!

I was asked to take part in this exhibit, which is awesome! I even had to write an artist statement and stuff. It is at the Interstate Firehouse Culture Center that is 3 blocks away from my house. I made a giant collage of images from Brainscan and I have two shelves of my zines.... all of the zines I have printed since 2003.

Other pieces include artist books, posters by various Portland printers, zine… Continue

.: Act Like U Know Emm

Q&A with Julio Rölle of 44flavours {printed in Art Bureau 15}

Why 44flavours and not 66, 69 or 77?

The name comes from a Brooklyn ice cream van you see all over the hood during the summer, which Sebastian Bagge, who is my partner in crime, saw in a film. And no joke—it really was called 44flavours. The name is perfect because when we decided to start a magazine, that was exactly what…
