Call for Zine Exhibition

Hi,

I'm organising a zine exhibition for around March with various zinemakers - a collective, if you like - and I wondered whether you had a zine ready or something you'd like to make, which could be included in the exhibition?

There will be pages (or excerpts) from zines blown up to larger sizes and displayed on the wall in whichever creative form the zinemaker wants. For example, simple A3 or A2 sized posters or on canvasses or inside books hung on the wall... The… Continue

Call for Writing about Fat Issues in Zines - new and old!

Hello,

I am working on getting together fat zines and zines that included articles about fat issues for a possible anthology. The zine would be a collection of fat zines over the last 10+ years.

I really want to do it and think it could be great, but am having a hard time finding the zines, especially some older ones. If you did one or had something about fat politics published in one in the last 15 years, please contact me asap.

Thanks!

New mini Zine: "The Sketchbook Adventures of Emmeline Stronach"

This is a mini zine that I created for the Mini Zine Folks group swap (09). It fits into a standard envelope, is black and white and 16 pages. Because it's shiny an new, I've put it in a foil embossed koi envelope I found at the asian grocery.

The zine features pages from my sketchbook drawn especially for the… Continue

One-Shots

I figure i don't have a steady zine. I do have poetry chapbooks and chap. anthologies. Then i have these one-shots. In comic world (a world i am so comfortable living in). A one-shot according to Wikipedia is:

In the American comic book industry, the term one-shot is used to denote a pilot comic or a stand-alone story created to last as one issue. These single issues are usually labeled with a "#1" despite there being no following issues, and are sometimes subtitled as "specials".… Continue

ZINES! (re)make history!!!! Exhibit!!!

An Exhibit & Workshop On Underground Publishing

Curated by Grrrl Zines A-Go-Go, this is not just an exhibit, but an active exploration of zine culture and production, including a "Scrap Lounge" in which visitors can create their own zine. Zines are the print media of an "alternative" culture that turns out not to be so alternative after all. Self-published & without censorship, zines are raw culture, not mass media that relies on the… Continue

Eddie Willson's short story featured in Fallyrag

Fallyrag was lucky enough to get its hands on Eddie Willson's collection of stories in his zine 'you are here' of which 'Punch' is featured in this issue of the creative journal.

http://www.fallyrag.com/ - as always, we're interested in featuring examples from the zine world so get in touch if you fancy this opportunity. A new ZIne review section is in the pipeline for next month.

Kind regards,

Jon

Review of Let's D.I.Y. #2 by Grrrl Zines A-Go-Go

I wrote the following review for Zine World #25:

Let’s D.I.Y. #2: This issue of Let’s D.I.Y. is subtitled “Off the Page: taking zine-making to the community” and was produced by Grrrl Zines A-Go-Go. It tells why zine-makers should get involved with community groups and gives info on how to begin and maintain such partnerships. Once the basics are covered, there’s some more in-depth information on how to do it all better. The zine closes with a list of resources as well as questions… Continue

Reviews of You Live for the Fight When That’s All That You’ve Got #1 by Ciara Xyerra

I wrote the first review for the Feminist Review Blog, and it can be found here

http://feministreview.blogspot.com/2007/06/you-live-for-fight-when-thats-all-that.html

The second review was written for issue #25 of Zine World.

This zine is the latest from the woman who brought the world five issues of A Renegade’s Handbook to Love & Sabotage. After her dad’s unexpected death in 2002, she took a break from producing zines because “the words just didn’t come out in a… Continue

Q&A with Matt W. Moore {printed in Art Bureau 17}

Matt, you've been very busy. In the last year or so, you've moved from Portland, Maine to work for Burton Snowboards in Vermont, and now I hear you opened your own design firm in Boston. Can you give us a brief re-cap of what led you away from Portland and made it possible for you to start a design business in Boston?

Well, I finished school in Portland in 2005 and worked at…

Zinefest!

I am really looking forward to the zinefest in London, see my events bit for info, as I am part of the exhibition thats part of the fest. I havent had any of my comics in an exhibition before and Im really nervous that no one will like them or that they will seem totally shite next to all the very competant female comic artists. But I am also looking forward to being in an exhibit with fabulous women artists. Its just all so cool.

Anyway, I hope people will come and spend time at the… Continue

Reviews of Functionally Ill #1, #2, #3

I wrote these three reviews for GoodReads.

In her introduction, Laura-Marie writes, "I'm writing this zine so others can know what it feels like to be me. Also, it...more Subtitled "adventures with mental health", this first issue is specifically about "becoming bipolar."

reviews of Morganmuffel #16 and #17

These are the reviews of Morganmuffel #16 and #17 that I wrote for my GoodReads page. #17 actually just came out, so you can get a copy from Isy. She's on We Make Zines, so look her up.

#16 Morgenmuffel RULES!

Isy tells the stories of her life through super cool, super cute comics. She goes to protests, cooks a lot of food, and drinks a lot of beer. This particular issues includes lists of hated things compiled by a variety of people.

#17 I so appreciate Isy's… Continue

Zine Reviews

I am going to start posting zine reviews that I've written for the Feminist Review Blog (http://feministreview.blogspot.com/) and Zine World and GoodReads
(http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/142816). Once I post everything that I've already written, I will try to write new ones. These won't all be up-to-the- minute zine reviews, but maybe they will be of interest to someone.

Review of 3 by robnoxious

This review was first published in Zine World #26 and later on the Feminist Review Blog (http://feministreview.blogspot.com/2008/11/3.html).

3 is the fourth book published by robnoxious, a collection of creative non-fiction including pain and happiness, laughter, friendship and isolation, travel, cats and dogs, drinking, and even more than all that.

It’s difficult to accurately describe what this book is about. It’s the stories that make up one guy’s life. It’s about… Continue
