"Anarchism, Self-publishing, and the Anti-Sleep League at Philadelphia: A memoir" by Robert P. Helms from "Going Postal!" #1

Anarchism, Self-publishing, and the Anti-Sleep League at Philadelphia: A memoir by Robert P. Helms from "Going Postal!" #1

When I remember my early years of involvement in anarchism, a wide range of images and feelings wander through my mind and across my skin. Starting in the summer of 1989, I started to explore the idea in places other than library stacks, mostly in Philadelphia. Between 1991 and around 2000, the circle to which I belonged maintained a capacity to publish… Continue

Cool review

I'm glowing (if not downright blushing) just at the minute after an absolutely awesome review of my weaving zines by Diane Gilleland over at the Crafty Pod - http://www.craftypod.com/2009/05/21/ooooh-weaving-zines/. I've not got anything else to say about it; it was just very nice to wake up to!

Man it's been awhile...

I thought I'd deleted my old Ning account months ago, but apparently it's still valid. Good thing, I guess.

I have a main blog, and try to keep the off-shoot to a minimum, so here I'll just stick to the occasional zine-related stuff.

After finishing issue 3 of Carpe Noctem (no, not that Carpe Noctem), I've started sending it out for reviews. I'm going to try to get submissions for issue 4 and have that… Continue

Musea E-mail Club #472 PEN Writer Awards - are they fair?

Dear Reader,

Perhaps you have heard of the writers organization called PEN. See the PEN website at http://www.pen.org/ They write:

"PEN’s programs reach out to the world and into diverse communities within this country. They promote writing and literature at every level and are founded on the belief that free expression is an essential component of every healthy society."

But an investigation by King Wenclas, one of the founders of ULA, Underground Literary… Continue

recognition in the f[A]rtfield

As my work is displayed more and more across this city and via hear-say and say-hear, people are showing interest to the point of purchase &/or commision of interviews or trade and wearing patches.

The other week at Mia’s (local bar), this guy Kevin recognized me from my art show from the prior month at Tacos Locos and mentioned his interest in my art for an album cover. I have yet to hear his work, but am thoroughly interested in such a project. The idea of…

The Machine of Ephemeral Thoughts - In zine format

The Machine of Ephemeral Thoughts - In zine format

You know, I've become really interested in the idea that, in general, the ultimate destination for art is documentation in a book or video. To start the ball rolling in my own practice I decided to convert the Machine… Continue

Lunchy Duh Elf-Bo! childhood zine

Lunchy Duh Elf-Bo! childhood zine

writing I added on back reads:

"When I was about 11 or 12 yeas old me and two mates put together this zine. It doesn't really follow any narrative and there is an obsession with the number 69, but it is quite an amusing read. There are a lot of references to our warped Kiwi childhood and the… Continue

Artists Against Wankers Action Group - 2008 Manifesto

Artists Against Wankers Action Group - 2008 Manifesto

A few months ago I jokingly started the Artists Against Wankers Action Group (AAWAG) after experiencing a particularly harsh social environment at an exhibition opening. The reason? Too many art wankers. Some friends immediately expressed interest in the group and since then I have always… Continue

Dirty Smut - zine for mature readers...

Dirty Smut

Dirty Smut - inspired through my fine arts course. The content is basically arty porn-related or sexually inspired images. Its not really explicit at all, a little bit, maybe. I have been told it is "shocking... but a good shocking". I like that.

Some drawings, a little writing, photos of friends, all content is self-produced.… Continue

all work and no play

Argh!

It's been such a busy couple of weeks for me lately at work that i haven't had much time to do anything creative! it's such a pain having to work full time whilst doing a college course, prepping for an exhibition and finishing this first zine, but i guess i have to pay my bills!

Apart from the stress and lack of sleep I'm feeling pretty positive and happy :)

Now i'm focussing on college and this zine which luckily my tutors have said i can use it as one… Continue
