How I made and distributed the latest issue of my zine

The latest zine I've produced is called Dreamy Vs Sucks and I thought I'd write down how it all came together.

Like all the zines I've made lately this one was created with my good friend Brad (Bernard Boulevard). The concept for the zine came to us months ago when we were brain storming ideas for our comic zine Chicken With Penis, and during that time we would occasionally toss around different ideas on what the zine would be like. The only thing we really knew… Continue

Portland Zine Symposium

Well, I just got back from the 2009 Portland Zine Symposium, and I wanted to give you all some praise. This was the first year I've volunteered for the event, and I was very impressed with the cooperative spirit and overall positive vibe of this year's event. I also wanted to thank everyone who donated a zine to the Olympia Library's collection- you know who you are, and I thank you a hundred million times over. See y'all next year...

what makes a zinester

I posted this on my blog, but wanted to post it here too. Thanks to all of you for "getting it".

I am tired and need to wind down for tonight, but I wanted to post this while it was fresh in my head.

Driving to Kinkos tonight at 11:30 pm I thought what is it with me that makes me use my precious vacation time to stay home and make a zine? What is it that makes me stay in my house for 48 hours and work by myself on some folded pieces of paper?

I don't know… Continue

Against and Among Institutions: Mail Art as a Subversive Medium by John Held, Jr. from "Going Postal!" #1

"Against and Among Institutions: Mail Art as a Subversive Medium" by John Held, Jr.

I know it’s wrong…but I’ve been waiting for some major American art institution to come along and ask me to assist in the production of their major exhibition of Mail Art. It’s not happening. I know that things like this don’t happen without effort on one’s own part, but it’s long overdue…and I keep waiting. For how much longer, I don’t know.

Some would argue that an exhibition on Mail Art,… Continue

Hello.

I'm Gordon and under the name Chow Chow Productions I've been publishing zines since 1984. My first zine was called WDC Period and it was a music zine from Washington D.C. 1984 - 89. My next zine was a queer zine with the title Teen Fag and I published that from Seattle in the mid 90's.

Currently I am publishing a variety of mini zines: Skill Shot (Seattle's Pinball Zine), Chicken With Penis (a comic zine) and Dreamy Vs Sucks (sort of a… Continue

First Zine: Tears in my Schooner.

Tears in my Schooner: a guide on depressive aural indulgence is my first zine. It is a zine about depression, dealing with your emotions and using music to indulge. It's a A5 zine that comes with a Audio CD. More than willing to trade, or send you a copy for postage and construction costs.
