Musea Art Contest 6/29/09

The answer to, and winner (if any) for,

our last contest question of:

Matisse and Picasso were both rivals and great friends. They were also arguably the best artists of the century. Each influenced the other more than the other would admit. Let's go back in time. Picasso just unveiled his new picture, the groundbreaking masterpiece that would change the world of art forever, "Les Demoiselles, d'Avignon". What was Matisse's reaction when he first saw the… Continue

Zine Reviews

Here are some zine reviews I plan to have in my next zine. I may still edit them or change them around a bit, and I still have more zines to review, so let me know what you think of these so far! Need more, less? do they make you want to order the zines, yes or no or what?

I'll get to MY 'Ithaca'

I need to visit home.

I have to see my friends.

I NEED to be with my family.

Yeah, i know, those are three lines I never really thought I'd have to admit to. But alas, I do. And zines and crafts just might help me make it happen. How? Well from this day til before Christmas (my target date), I'll save every single cent I make from my zines/writings/poetry/crafts/photography for the plane ticket. So I'll have to apologize to everyone if my prices cannot be SUPER low as I… Continue

New Projects

It's been forever since I made a zine, let a lone an art zine. Today I'm going to brain storm on possible ideas for an art zine and hopefully I'll start on the project tonight.

Also, I have completed dinosaur vs. robot #6. Sadly, it is going to be the last issue of my comic journal series. In its place, I have been working on a comic series called Devil Bids Us Skoal. Perhaps in the future I'll do a… Continue

Sybil's Garage No. 6

Hi All, I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi to all members. Thanks for the great resource.

I produce a zine called Sybil's Garage. It's primarily filled with modern speculative fiction, poetry, and artwork from the early 20th century. I started it in Hoboken, New Jersey, but have moved to Greenpoint last year (hence the G train symbology in the current issue). Here's a picture of the latest cover:

Functionally ill #5 is out! It's about being rediagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, applying for Medi-Cal, dealing with bureaucracy, what my anxiety feels like, and losing services. There's a lot packed into this small issue. So get in touch if you're interested in trading!

Special Book Issue Out in JUly

Hi,
Hope all is as well as can be. Mishap #27 will be the book issue wherein various people offer up their favorite titles and also tell us about those books that changed their outlook or lives in some way. It isn't too late to get in, if'n you want.
I'll have them ready for the Portland Zine Symposium the end of July but probably not before.

Adult Themes is DONE!

I just finished doing layout for Adult Themes, and I am super excited about the cover!

I am also excited about my writing in the zine, although by the time it was all done, I really needed synonyms for moan, clit, cunt, cock, and rub. I am in awe of sex writers who can come up with unique descriptions for sexual body parts and actions. I ended up resorting to using "prick" and "dick", two words I'm not all that fond of.

In any case, the zine is all laid out. Within… Continue

Crone-ing

I'm trying to race ahead with Crone as my husband wants to get it printed next week. Monday and tuesday are his last days at HSBC and his last chance to print it. The situation with photocopyng at the Home Office is up in the air. He reckons it'll be fine; I'd rather not risk it for a while because, ya know, the Home Office. But I did go to a photocopiers in Machynllyth. I didn't really get the full details: there was a police officer in there, interviewing the shop owner about… Continue

2009 Zines 101 A zine making workshop SUCCESS!!!!

Wooohoo!!!The zine workshop today was great! No that's an understatement, it was.......SUPER! We were seven strong, mostly friends/acquaintances who frequent the cafe we were at. I was a little nervous despite knowing everyone....okay so i was really nervous. I gave a brief talk on the history of the zine, asked a question or two around the table, then we got sticky! After browsing some zines in my collection to get everyone acquainted with the numerous… Continue

Awesome evening in Aix-en-provence

I already wrote few pages in Cheaptoys #2 about la Fanzinothèque birthday party, and a lot of people could count it better than me, but last week-end was really awesome, and not so far away (from me !). Mort-né fanzine from Aix (south of france) put out an event with all the artist from the zines, in the Baba's bar.

Even if I think that, most all the people were not zinesters, or maybe don't really now what a zine is (who does ?) It was a really… Continue

black light diner distro update, june 2009

Hey, this is just a heads-up on the new zines and comics available at Black Light Diner Distro!

HIGH ON BURNING PHOTOGRAPHS #4 (Pittsburgh, PA)

Ocean's personal zine is a text-heavy meditation on such topics as sobriety, coming out, tough girls, and voluntary spinsterhood, all wrapped up in a scrappy cut-and-paste layout. The highlight of the zine, for me, is an incredibly moving… Continue
