Poem for the country in these hard times

Poem for the country in these hard times -

from the Musea Poetry issue from 2007

Bless the minnow, bless the whale

Bless the hardy, bless the frail

Bless the straight, bless the turn

Bless the world from stem to stern

Bless the sky and all that's in it

Bless the start and bless the finish.

(Inspired by "The Robin's Song, an Old English Rhyme)***

Musea Art Contest for the week - test your art smarts

The answer to, and winner (if any) for, our last contest question of:"Mary had a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb..."  But who was Mary? IS: Mary Sawyer who grew up in Sterling MA. The lamb caper happened in 1815 when her pet lamb followed her to school (clearly against the rules). Bet you didn't know it was about a real person! The author of the poem is in some dispute and remains a literary mystery.

But there is no mystery about our winner - Mike from Dameron MD. Seems the rest of…

Still working on Pieces #7

Sometimes everything you want to talk about, you can see it, hear it so clearly in your head, but somewhere between brain pulses and the pen in my hand, most of what I want to say is lost. This zine has proven this over and over again.

I believe I'm sticking with the evolution of my masochism. Some friends have expressed interest in such a zine, and it's also the core of many other things I've wanted to write about, such as anxiety, relationships, views of sex, and the coping…

Zine mixpacks

yf 15 3.jpg

A while back I went to a zine fair and stupidly left half the zines at home and had to make some hasty copies onto white paper rather than my usual coloured paper. I'm moving house and dejunking, and I've made some cheap mixpacks of those leftover white paper zines.

Ynfytyn 15, 16, 16.5 & 17 4 zine pack- £1.80 + post…

Musea Art Question for the Thanksgiving Week

The answer to, and winner (if any) for, our last contest question of:A couple of questions back I had one about the first self help book. This question is about Van Gogh and a self help book. The great artist learned some of his drawing skills from a famous self help art book of the time. Name it.IS: Charles Bargue with Jean-Leon Gerome's art book titled "Cours de dessin." This from one of Van Gogh's letters: "I’m now busy drawing all Bargue’s Exercices au fusain for the 3rd time."

Zines are what they are;

and I love that about them.

It is the abscense of guidlines and boundaries of this format that make zines, making/reading/enjoying them such a pleasure to me. I need an outlet that I can express myself in around the stupid hours i keep, i'm a pro cut and paster (or so i tell my kids!) and love love love the 'not-knowing' how my end of project product will turn out.

I have been gifted some interesting books that specifically…

Just some thoughts.

Got Stolen Sharpie Revolution in the mail last week from Parcell Press. Cool little book. I think that in addition to my Literary Zine, I'm going to do a PerZine too -- talking about skateboarding, aikido, etc. Will be easier to produce, as it will just be me writing it. Trying to come up with a Zine name for it.

Poems Written in November

Poems written in November  2011

Comments welcome.

[poem notes in brackets like this]

Picasso's distorted faces

show a repressed angst.

This is rampant in modern art

and displays personalities that are split -

torn apart and filled with rage.

2 [from Writings In Science - my sci fi anthology]

When we are sailing

light years away

how can we still

smell the sea air?

Grab bags for UK people

I'm moving house and short on space, so I've got 3 zine grab bags. I would send them to a zine library, but there's about 6kg of zines in total and I don't have the spare cash. Each bag has around 40 zines, variety of topics and sizes (plenty of perzines).
* UK people only *
* Postage £5 *

Zines at the Shoe!

This page is specifically to help make sure that Wooden Shoe has an online presence in the zine community.

We are a radical infoshop/anarchist collective on South Street in Philly who sells books and records, zines, and art and t-shirts, and all of the amazing stuff that lots of infoshops do.

It would be cool to have a bigger part in both the local and national zine communities, as we sometimes host zine readings and workshops and panels and talks by folks…
