I'm learning to 'story board'

It's okay to draw stuff like I do but I'm learning to compose a line of action. I picked up this book on Manga, Manga Drawing Kit. Thumbnails, panels in action. The book recommends sketching the particulars then turning the sequence of events into a panel. Exciting. It's a lot more than just drawing something which is all I ever had done. So, I'll get back to the blog once I develop something smooth to copy. My progress has been really slowy evolving. But, that's okay.

The Story Zine we made at the Star & Shadow cinema, Newcastle upon Tyne, this October.

Story Zine & Hybrid Zine

Making the story zine was lovely. 8 people took part.

The ugliest breakfast in the world was made on my campstove. Phipps was looking after a friend's dog, which did a poo.

And inspired by some trashy hire-books from the Grainger Market we produced some rather racy page-long works.

Here's excerpts (we mostly chose to be 'anon' so I'll just number them).

See if you can work out which room each takes place in. The title of the zine… Continue

Pillow Talk number two is done!

It's finally done! It ended up being 26 pages long and I'm pretty proud of it. I'm going to go and get it copied sometime this week and I *should* be able to post it out next week.

I'm so glad I can finally honour the swaps you ladies have asked for!

Number 3 is definitely not going to take so long. It felt really good to get all that out of me.

I've uploaded some pictures of it if you want a sneaky peak. It's a shame I won't be able to copy it in… Continue

looking for NEW zines!!

yep, you heard [read] me right, i'm looking for new zines... so far, most of the zines i got are from the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, and i'm looking for something "different".

i'm mostly interested in zines from Japan (or any other Asian country) and from anywhere in Africa, since most of the things i get to read are with an occidental cultural/social view (ok, Australian zines are from the other side of the world - to an European - but still...). the only problem is they must be… Continue

Yes yes... It's late October and I am just getting around to post an update. It's been quite busy in my world. Most of my time going to the Richmond Zine Fest which is coming up November 6th & 7th. I will be tabling Click Clack Distro both days of the fest, and will be teaching a zine distribution workshop alongside Alex Wrekk on Nov. 7th.

For one more week… Continue

In which one zinester regains access to her PayPal account...

Hello friends! A few months ago I lost my PayPal account (it is a long story involving debt, an expired credit card, and crummy customer service on the part of PP, please don't ask), but I just recently got the account back, so I just wanted to let you know that you can now, once again, get zines from my Etsy shop and pay with PayPal rather than well-concealed cash. I also wanna thank the kind people who continued reading my zines in the meantime without griping about the wee inconvenience of… Continue

A mini zine tour of Eastern North America...

Alex Wrekk’s Eastern North America Mini tour thing…

Hello! Greeting from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. I have been here for a week for the Anchor Archive’s Zine Residency Program (http://www.robertsstreet.org). That means I get to live in a shed in their backyard and make zines for two weeks. This also means I should have the zine I have been working on for the past 5 years done and ready for all the events coming up! Anyway, here’s my mini… Continue

new zines

I have been busy working / writing on a new zine since February. The content has been coming along nicely & I think I have enough stuff written up now, to put the issue out. So as soon as I have enough 'free time' I will be typing up & laying out the zine. This issue is going to be Rebel In Magenta #17 and its going to have a lot to do with turning 30 and what that did to me (my thoughts, changes in life, thinking back. etc). I'm really excited about this issue.

I also… Continue

on the cusp

i organize every monstress around a central monstrous theme and this time, i'm torn between two, "witchiness" and "ape attack!" i already have a bunch of reviews of movies where the horror is built around old women (bette davis' entire late career) but i'm having trouble with writing the other stuff. every issue also has chapters of a pulp fiction story in it and for "witchiness" i'd like to write something kind of agatha christie or dorothy sayers for the fiction. but writing in that style… Continue
