Asexual Feminism Issue #2

So my first big zine was Asexual Feminism Issue #1, which contained personal essays written by feminists who identify as asexual (asexual = one who does not experience sexual attraction, by the way), on the topic of how asexuality and feminism are related or intersect in their lives...

The next issue should be coming out around December and I'm taking submissions from anyone (in or outside of the US, which is where I reside) who identifies as a feminist and is: asexual,…

Old Zine, New Review

Kung Fu Grip! #3: When I first saw this zine (maybe in 2006) I got so excited, because it sure looked like it was cool: a confluence of pop culture obsessions like toys, kung fu and exploitation movies, graffiti and so on. Whatever that first issue was, #3 is absolutely all of… Continue

'The Music One' zine

I have just released my first zine - a collaboration with twenty up-and-coming illustrators called 'The Music One'.

A little more info;

'The concept of this zine is simple - take a handful of music-obsessed

illustrators and designers and ask them to do a portrait of their

favourite musician or band. Then get each contributor to write a few

words about their favourite record by their chosen muse.

This was something of a dream project for me to… Continue

Twenty-Four Zine #3

I just finished #3 in my mini-twenty-four-hour-zine series. I love this little series because it takes only a short time to finish a whole zine. I also love the challenge of drawing in small scale and trying to convey a message.

The zine's theme is Problems and Solutions. It is all about the problems we have as artists that keep us from moving forward in our dreams and goals. The specific problems in this zine are one's that I am…

The Tao of Inspiration

Most of us know the oft' quoted proverb that says: when the student is ready the teacher will appear. This week, Professor Cheng Man-ch'ing (by way of author Wolfe Lowenthal) became one of my teachers.

I had actually purchased
Lowenthal's There Are No Secrets about two…

Medium Rare Reviews

I don't write many reviews, not that I have anything against 'em. Maybe I don't write many because there are tons of people online and off who specialize in providing really thoughtful reviews, and I would rather just leave it up to them. Nevertheless, I do want to post a few reviews of some zines and some mini-comics that I've read recently and enjoyed.

First up is Kaiju Big Battel's…

Who else loves mail?

I am new to zines. Which means that up until a few months ago, I had no use for the US Mail system. After all, as a teenager I don't get bills, newsletters or any of the things my parents get. Once in a blue moon the library sent me a postcard reminding me about overdue fines that I was scared to pay for. But that was it.

But now? Mail is my favorite thing. I love getting home and finding a stack of envelopes with "Inertia" written across them. Mail brings magical things. Zines,… Continue

REQUEST FOR ENTERTAINMENT REPRESENTATION

BAMBOOZLED

The Joey Torrey Story

My name is Joey Torrey, former pugilist and enforcer. I am in need of representation to tell this remarkable story. I've been requesting to the Department of Justice for a criminal investigation delving into Operation Matchbook, a federally funded government investigation focused on organized crime and fixing prizefights. This covert operation ran from the gold shores of Costa Rica's…

my overview of SF Zine Fest 2010

I woke up excited! We drove to the Oakland BART station and parked. We

took BART to Embarcadero and then got on MUNI metro, N line, to Golden

Gate Park. First we ate Indian food for lunch. (I'd called my friend J

to invite her, but she was already having lunch with different

friends.)

Then we headed to the zine fest! I was excited knowing that eventually we would run into Jen and MC of ButterSword fame. We entered the Fair… Continue
