  I am writing from a group of ladies who are organizing a Los Angeles Zine Fest in early 2012. We want to have a FREE event with 60-70 vendors from all over the country (and world even!) participate to celebrate zines in a way that Los Angeles hasn't embraced, on a large scale, in quite a while. We have entered a contest that will fund the idea with the most votes with a $2,500 prize and we need your help!

I love toys, especially Lego and pretty much anything dinosaur-related. Check out some of my comics, a mad fusion of ridiculous playtime and digital photography. The latest comic includes a Sister Sister Button and Guam's finest Shakespearean impersonations.

Somebody by the name of Gene Hawkridge sent me an invitation to join LinkedIn, which he himself is on.  At first, I thought it may have been some kind of spam, so I hit the reply button and politely told him I didn't remember ever "meeting" him.  Later, the name began sounding more familiar, and after an Inbox search, I did find he was a WA LP member and had contacted me in a mass e-mail a while back.  So, taking it as a possibly friendly personal gesture, I decided I'd go ahead and accepted…

Wow, the META-COMICS issue is funded as of 8:55pm tonight. I'm completely overwhelmed by the generosity of all of the backers, and very glad I decided to take a chance and use Kickstarter to fund the project.

A few things I've learned so far:

1. Have a modest goal and provide a budget in your project description to show where the money will go.

2. Have reasonable reward levels. For this, $1 got a "thank you" in the zine, $5 a PDF of the issue, and $10 a dead tree copy of…
