Newsletter for August

Hello and welcome to August. I hope you all had as exciting and adventurous of a July as I did. It was great. But, goal for this month: hang out in

Olympia. I haven't been around that much and it's a bit of a shame since this is such a good place to be in the summer. So, other than

going to the Portland Zine Symposium (August 28th & 29th, see you

there?), I think I'm going to hold somewhat strong to this goal. Here at the distro, there are many goodnesses- music that spans… Continue

6 Crucial Zine Making Tools

All zinesters may not feel the same way, but I love office supplies! My love for pens and mail organization has even lead some of my friends to call me an office punk. Although you can make a zine with almost anything, here is a list of what I feel are the most essential zine making tools. Click to read the… Continue

School + College + Zine Distro

Wow I've been busy. Yesterday I got a call from my guidance counselor who told me that I had a bunch of extra credits, which meant that I could graduate a year early, so this year will be my last year of high school! I'm really excited about that.

But I'm kind of worried about college. I really want to take the distro with me to college but I don't know how.. I know it's a bit early to be thinking about this, but I want to start planning, and making preparations.. How the…

Zinester Picnic in Chicago

Hey!

This idea came up at the post-fest meeting for the Chicago Zine Fest, let's have a Chicago Zinester Picnic this Saturday (the 14th)! Bring a dish to share (along with an ingredient list, so those of us with dietary restrictions can know whether we can enjoy your food), and zines to trade. You might also want to bring a blanket, or any items that make picnics fun, like frisbees or balls or hoola-hoops?

Chicago Zinester…

New look for MM

Hi all,

I'm proud to announce that Mustache Monthly now has a screen printed cover! Whee! I'm still getting the hang of it, so it looks a bit messy, but it's going to be awesome! The new cover takes off in the September issue, which will be coming out soon.

Mad Hatter Distro & RatBrat #12

Hello All!,

I've had a rough few months since January. At the moment, I am trying to find my first apartment so that I can stop couch surfing, which is fun, but tiresome at times. I don't think I was built for roommates.

That said, I am still zining! Money's tight, but I just got a new job and should have photo copy funds in the near future. RatBrat #12 is nearly finished and should be interesting considering most of my art supplies are packed away somewhere…

Is it really not that personal if i'm willing to print it..?

One dilemma over; another 16 present themselves!! but first, my SUCCESSFUL ruling out has led me to a decision, thanks to much good advice from fellow zinesters and a friendly shove from the hubby - i've concluded that before i can write in the now, i feel a necessary urge to push through a previous incomplete writing excerpts of sorts that was 6 or so yrs in the making.. it is for lack of better description 'my book'. i wrote in it when i felt like something must be said but the words escaped… Continue

Published in Broken Pencil & Artful Agendas!

I was published in the Summer 2010 Issue of Broken Pencil: The Magazine of Zine Culture and the Independent Arts! Broken Pencil is based in Toronto, Canada. I met the editor, Lindsay, at the Buffalo Small Press Book Fair in March of this year. She asked me to write something for the "Zine Philosophy" section of the mag - why I make zines, my inspiration, and "philosophy" about them. I did mine zine-style -… Continue

Call for submissions for Bitch theme #2: the clit edition

I've pretty much finished Bitch theme #1 now. It just needs a few final touches and then will be ready to photocopy and all that jazz (I will change my profile information to indicate when it is ready) and i have already begun thinking about Bitch theme #2. For a really long time i have wanted to do a zine dedicated to the cunt, and more specifically, the clit. I think clits are so ridiculously important for women, and it saddens me how few see this importance, and how often the subject of…

Hey people who have asked for trades I will get on to it next week once I am off work for 2 weeks - woo hoo and have hopefully got new recue greyhounds and settled them in.

After wandering a bit

It's been a busy few months since I was here last. I finished the second vol. of Phaugey Dox and they have since become part of a larger book.

A grand zine. I'm working on two at the moment. They have offered obsticals of how to put them together which I have solved by wrapping the folded edges to make the binding..

Evolution at work. I'm working on some papers which could be turned into individual zines at some point, but who's to say.

I'm still enjoying the process.

summertime makes me crazy...

this summer has been hectic, as it usually is since my brain goes haywire every summer. i don't want to sleep or stop doing anything, yet i never feel like i'm doing enough. this is something that has been plaguing me for a few years now, but summer makes it more obvious. i have a million projects on my mind and in the works. sometimes i feel like i am just spread to thin to finish any of these projects. my to-do list just keeps getting longer and as it does, i fall into procrastination mode.… Continue
