Right before the second day of the July '09 Portland Zine Symposium, finished a dream comic called
Nightlife. Basically a bunch of my dreams all strung together to almost make sense.

Hi,
If you'd like a copy of my zine, just send me a dollar (or 2 postage stamps) to:
Heidi
PO Box 5880
Chula Vista, CA 91912.
The zine is two 8.5x11" sheets printed double sided and features an article about my favorite DJ, nice bondage images, an article on healthy eating and foods to avoid, and answers to a fun survey question, "What's your favorite sex scene in a movie?" .

2 April: We arrive at Philadelphia International Airport & approach the long lines of people waiting to go through the immigration check point. There is an angry Hispanic woman shouting in English & in Spanish, “U.S. citizens to the left! Non-U.S. citizens to the right! Ciudadanos de los Estados Unidos a la izquierda! Todos los otros a la derecha!” I wish Lola luck & give her a kiss as she heads over to the immigration line for drug dealers, terrorists & child molesters. When I…

Hello everyone,
I make zines! yay! You can find them at my Etsy shop: www.sprouthead.etsy.com. I am currently working on a new perzine called Minutiae No. 2 about my experiences in Richmond, Virginia. I moved here about 3 months ago. I don't lead a crazy life or anything, but it's just observations in drawing and writing about my day-to-day life. I also have plans on completing a zine about a trip to New Mexico that I took last July. It was such a magical adventure and I've been so…

Well yesterday I thought I was gonna be all hard core and go donate some plasma so I could get my second issue of Gestalt and Pepper printed up. The printers I go to charge a booklet fee to scan it all, so I went ahead and scanned all 36 images and put them on a jump drive to bring to them, and save myself the $20 for the booklet fee, figured I could make $25 selling plasma and get at least 10 copies printed. Well to start off, they still had tocharge me the booklet fee, they said because each…

Although I'm half way through editing my second book [Some More Things Strange & Sinister] and need to get Merriwether copied and scanned,I am trying to up-date a book I wrote in 1994,up-dated in 1996 and which has been hanging around for quite a while gathering dust.
The Illustrated Field Guide To Elves is full of black and white illoes and I've just to retype the text and clean up a few of the old drawings. Then its working out the cover design. I'm hoping that it should be…

so i deleted the blog post with the pictures of the monsters i drew for the Lucky Creature Attacks coloring book. the in process photos of all the drawings are in the 4 monsters photo album, including a couple of scans. i've sent all the images to scott. i'm at the part of the process where i do not like looking at my work, which is another reason to move it off my main page.
now i'm experimenting with digitally darkening the lines of the faun drawing using Gimp.

While we've added lots of great zines this month, I wanted to mention how great I think our feature of the month is. It's not zine or music, but a double cd audio documentary called
I Want To Do This All Day Long, which is about radical education/alternative education programs in the U.S.
Amber and Amina, who made it, traveled across the country and visited 22 different free…

The answer to, and winner (if any) for,
our last contest question of:
Painting question. What is a camel hair brush made out of? And no its not that simple. Here's a clue, most are made out of what lives in my Dallas neighborhood.
IS
Squirrel's tails! (and sometimes horses, goats, sheep, bear hair, or some combination.) Meng T'ien invented the camel's hair brush in China in 250 BC.
We had no winner. Strangely enough y'all were not SQUIRRELLY enough on…

I saw a really cool zine format in 'Whatcha Mean, What's a Zine?' called "stack-n-wrap". It's when you do a bunch of quarter-sized pages but you don't print on the backs, and then you bind them with a rubber band (basically, they're not bound, they're just tied together.) This way, people can reuse them as post cards or you can print them on sticker paper to be reused as stickers. Has anyone else heard of this format? I want to try it sometime, it sounds really cool. And my art work would be…
