5 April: A lot of friends and family members are coming over tonight to say hello and get drunk and whatnot. So my mother, Lola and I go to the supermarket (after another big breakfast! – this time it was Southern biscuits and gravy). At the supermarket I get another unexpected shock. We don´t have much variety in Plasencia´s supermarkets. If we want to make something “special” - like Mexican or Japanese food - there is quite a bit of preparation that goes into finding what we need. (There is… Continue

I had a tremendously awesome 24 Hour Zine Thing & Reading at my library, and I took some pictures during the reading. I wish I had thought to take pictures during the zinemaking portion of the event, which had over 20 attendees including an 8 year old and a 78 year old. At least 8 of the attendees completed zines (including the 8 year old!). The reading had over 40 attendees. I was boggled at the event's success, which was mostly due to the draw of 6 great zine readers...… Continue

As my surname implies, I consider myself a journalist, not to mention a REPORTER. So as a side project to the creative writing project class at the IPRC (that I may or may not be a part of) I am going to continue working on writing about my passion of jazz music and beat culture--some of the true stuff of Portland that I cannot deny any longer! Zines aren't just about fictional self-indulgent bullshit; it's my opinion that they should also inform the reader. Hence the "journalist" moniker. Need… Continue

I moved (again) to the next town over (again), but I work all the time. I have been dragging out zines that I have loved (or zines that randomly I've had for years and haven't read). I miss creating and am going to (sometime in the near future) take all of my brain poopings (journals, drawings, etc) and stick 'em on some pages and take them to the printer. Be prepared.

Some of you know I have a great interest in biology. This post is about some recent ideas that I have had that I think may be new and important. I'm going to take some time on the introduction, so it will make more sense to you. Please bare with me.
Let's start with metabolism. That's the chemical processes in all living things.
Metabolism is divided into two categories. These are important for you to know before the rest of this makes sense. They are CATABOLISM, and ANABOLISM.… Continue

What the hell is with these things? Is Apple really that desperate for money? I mean, c'mon, why would you need any of that shit in the first place? Um...there's this thing you can carry around called a LAPTOP. To simplify even further, there is internet connection, laptop or no. People who are this hooked on technology deserve to be condemned. And coming from me, that is a very extreme comment. I barely ever condemn anybody unless they've done something very horrible to me. But when you're… Continue

3 April: After about 5 hours of sleep I´m wide awake & quietly get out of bed & walk out into the sunroom. The sun is just coming up over the horizon & I spot 3 deer grazing on some of the bushes in my parent´s back yard. My father is making a pot of coffee & telling me that the local deer have been wandering down into their yard &, much to my mother´s dismay, eating everything in sight.

Apologies if you receive this more than once...
I am currently putting together a new zine about 'community'. I want to know what you think. What is your vision for change? Is a strong, healthy community part of this? Why is this important to you? How do you think we could grow to have this? How could we make real your dreams of better worlds? Share your words and pictures and dreams with me!
feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions/ wanna chat about… Continue

"The Best of Intentions Avow Anthology" is fucking incredible. Keith Rosson's short stories are profound, profane, pro-active and professional--not to mention entertaining and amusing as hell! This book is well worth the $12, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants something meaningful and yet fun to read. If you're unsure about buying it, just read a few of the stories and look at some of the pieces of awesome artwork and you will realize that Rosson is a transcending zinester. You don't… Continue

last week of Die Active - Rock the Paper Scissors meetings-- we are beating this beast together
I have over 100 submissions of art and writing-feels like a mill
The collective has doubled up on meetings this month, makin it twice a week so that there's lots of opportunity
for input on design layout and cuts

Hey ya'll. I'm just getting started with what I hope will be a three-part zine. It's actually going to be published all together as a book, but I want to get it out there as much as possible - I'm not doing this to make a crap-load of money, I just wanna help people understand mental illness and it's treatment. So, if anyone knows how I can get started cause it's basically written and I just wanna get out there! Thanks for your help!

I have been neglectful over here and decided to fix that particular faux pas. Anyway, I recently got a book entitled Whatch Mean? What's A Zine? Very cool book and I would recommend it to anyone here. Because of that I have started a new mini zine called Doug Life. There was this neat way to fold and cut a single piece of paper to make a zine that I have implemented for Doug Life. The first one is done for anyone who wants to trade. I also have a new issue of my Fu-Manchu mini called Fu-Manchu… Continue

The answer to, and winner (if any) for,
our last contest question of:
Tired of trendy DJ's hamming it up every morning? How about endless retro rock stations? Or maybe you've had just about enough talk radio and you wish they would switch to sign language! Well according to a book on the Planets by Dava Sobel, there is one sure spot in the solar system where you can avoid earth radio waves. Name that hideout!
