My Zines

I'm new here so it seems a good idea to introduce myself... I'm a writer from the Netherlands who's fond of zines. I publish a small literary zine called 'De Kutgitaar' (the shitty guitar) and compose zines of all kind from stories, poetry and comics. Most of them are in Dutch, one is German and I'm planning to make an English one soon.

The zines so far:

24 Hour Zine Thing in Auckland, other zine stuff.

This weekend is a rare beast - I actually have it off.

Tomorrow (Saturday) I will be taking part in the 24 Hour Zine Thing event that Tangleball in Auckland is hosting. From noon Saturday til noon Sunday I will be taking part in an event of concentrated creativity.

It is the first time I have done the 24 Hour Zine Challenge, I have done NaNoWriMo and the like before - a month of writing madness but I have never done a full on challenge in such a short space of time.

I am…

zines:for us,not you

theres alot of scenes on the east coast, but really if they were any good, they would be in new york.it doesnt make sense to put out a zine if you live in some embarrasingly crappy dump like philly.maybe philly, but if your any souther, you have no right to publish a zine.the south is racist,so,if you live there, you obviously tolerate racism,or you'd change it,or move to a real city.there are no actual zines from anywhere below the mason dixon line.people from the south are too stupid to have… Continue

Distro Update for July

These days, the Ms Valerie Park Distro is glamorously operating from many different locations at once. We’re in Olympia packing orders and stocking shelves and (at the same time!) out on the road doing paperwork and responding to emails. It makes us feel big, grand even. But we’re trying to not let…

Musea art contest for the week - test your art smarts

The answer to, and winner (if any) for, our last contest question of:
John Lennon said, “I have no idea what _______ are … they sound like exotic birds!  What was he talking about?
IS: Aeolian Cadences. One of the first critics to take the Beatles music seriously was William Mann who said  "... so natural is the Aeolian cadence at the end of "Not a second time" (the chord progression which ends Mahler's Song of the Earth)." Sounds a bit high brow, which I think…

Shape & Situate #2 - NEW! OUT NOW!

'Shape & Situate: Posters of Inspirational European Women' is a zine of posters made by artists and DIY creative folk within Europe, each poster highlighting the (often hidden) history and lives of radical inspirational women and collectives from Europe, as a way of connecting us with the past, the present, and to help us to make sure that there will be a future which contains such creative and pioneering female action and activity. The zine aims to activate feminist cultural memory, to…

I will however direct you to where you can find our blogging, catalog and links to cool stuff here Las Vegas Zine Library ! If you come through Las Vegas be sure to visit us, as we're downtown and easy to locate for those of you not familiar with life outside the strip YET. :) You…

The Sketching Process

I thought it would be nice to show you how my sketches and doodles are born. At the minute I’m catching up with writing letters to people and most include a little drawing. I used to include sketches in letters to fill the void as writing isn’t my strong point so I never wrote much. Now with practice I’m getting more confident with writing but the drawings still remain. Its also these sketches which make up my zone of lunch time doodles. Just drop…

Zero Hour : Printaissance Special Edition / 24hr. Zine Thing 2011

Zero Hour is unlike the other issues of Printaissance in some very key ways, while remaining true to some of the style and format that has made Printaissance so popular among ones of readers. A very random mix of rants, musings, poems, Dr. Who trivia/game and oh so much more that all came together in under 24 to meet the deadline for the 24hr. Zine Thing 2011.

Just like all Printaissance issues there is a two page ‘centerfold’, this one contains a timeline of the construction of the…

'Larry' issue four...

The fourth issue of 'Larry' is A5, 32 pages, black and white, and as always printed on recycled paper. Each one is hand-tied, numbered, and has a little window cut out of a cartridge paper cover using a slightly crooked ruler.

This issue's content includes job-hunting, sports, walking, a guide to stretching paper, and a bunch of other things, with illustrations throughout, but the scan quality on the drawings is pretty rough this time around.

Forty copies have been…

Poems written in late June 2011

Poems written in late June  of 2011
[poem notes in brackets like this]
1.  [an awakening on the insect level]
now there comes
this cloudless night
and the newborn firefly
sees it's first Moon
2. [even the words leave a trail]
follow the trail
of the songs
of the birds
through the woods
3. [beware wordplay]
well well this is a bit…
