i never imagined i would turn this zine into a series.. but dundundundun, i did!!
...and i will always be the one to swim with you
is an 8pg. mini zine about a specific person who i can't get off my mind. so far, the people have been romantically inclined.. however i'm already thinking of making another issue about an old friend who i'm constantly reminded of. i have found that in making these zines, it helps get the person off my mind. those secret thoughts of mine are no… Continue

I know, I haven't finished Crone
yet. I've had a couple of set backs. We were without the 'net for a week while BT dickered about with the broadband. It took just about six calls a day to the helpline in India before it was finally fixed. I was gnawing the furniture in the meantime.
However, I managed to entertain myself by dislocating and breaking the little toe on my left foot. Don't ask how. My husband and daughter joke that I could cut myself on the air, I'm that clumsy.… Continue

Here's the review of my zine Adult Themes
that recently appeared on the Book Spew site (http://bookspewreview.wordpress.com/zines/)
Oh what a relief to read XXX rated work that isn’t packed full of “romantic” words, all wrapped up neatly for dumb readers.
Chantel G. is such a wonderful writer. She has a fabulous writing style that really makes you want to read on. From her sex dreams, to her poetry and her stories are all packed… Continue

It's 4:25 in the afternoon in Lawrence, KS. I just stapled the last of my 24 Hour Zine zines.
Called Open Book
, this new zine turned out well. I am pleased with it. It's not perfect, but I've never seen a zine that was.
I met my goals of #1 simply completing the zine in 24 hours (or less) #2 making it more visually stimulating than past zines and #3 writing more honestly.
It includes 38 things about me (and a shout out to Eunice for the idea), writing… Continue

Please do stop by the table and say hi, maybe trade a zine, or just pick one up.
See you there Friday and Saturday.

Whew! It's 12:40 in the afternoon, and I have just finished all the writing and layout of my zine. Yippee!
I was not feeling so great when I got up this morning, but I stuck it out, had some food, got excited about zine making again.
I think I'm going take a quick shower then look at the bus schedule. I don't have access to a car today, so I have to find out when I can catch the bus with my bike and go to the copy store. I am going to have it completed by 6pm, I know it!

It's just about 8:15. I do NOT feel like being awake and out of bed, but here I am dedicated to making my 24 Hour Zine happen. I don't think I have any caffeine in the house. Drats! I don't know how I am going to stay awake and typing, but i am determined.
It's been an awfully long time since the old lady I have become has stayed up basically night and then tried to be creative/artistic on just a few hours of sleep. Wish I didn't have to work around the schedule of the copy shop… Continue

Well, it's not quite 5am, but "4:45 update" didn't make for such a great title.
i can't believe I am still awake. I can barely keep my eyes open, much less type. I am beginning to have those lack of sleep hallucinations, so I think think I should go lie down for a while, maybe sleep a bit.
The name of the zine is Open Book
, by the way, and I have 17 pages written and laid out. Only five more pages to go. I have no idea what I will write about, but I am sure I will… Continue

It's 12:18 am my time, and I've been at it for six hours. Wow!
I've mostly been writing, a few images inserted in the body of the document. I've got 18 pages written, including the front and back covers. Oh, that means I only have to write six more pages, probably less than that, since I want to include more images.
Oh wow! It's raining here. That's so unusual for this time of year. Usually by July we are in the drought season. I guess I didn't have to take 15 minutes… Continue

I'm about to start my 24 hour zine. I'm going to start at 6pm, in six minutes! I have my dinner ready to go, and I'm going to eat while I work on the cover. Oh yeah!

I am so ready to make my 24 hour zine. I am all coffeed up, and let me tell you, I only drink coffee about twice a year. I will be awake all frickin' night!
As soon as I get off work at 5pm, I am going to bike home really fast, cook and eat up some dinner, then settle in for writing, cutting, pasting, and creating. I'll keep everyone posted!

FIRST WORLD TOP 40 LIST!

There have been a few additions in recent weeks. Here they are (the list is like the blob - it keeps growing as it eats great great music)

We just started carrying Captian Heather Comics
, which is totally wonderful zine that you should check out.
More along the lines of a graphic novel than a comic zine, Captain Heather Comics is stories from the life of Ms. Heather Dunn. All stories within are completely charming and written with the grace and wit that not many zinesters have just yet. Wonderful… Continue

ZAPP will have a table at this year's Portland Zine Symposium, Friday July 24-Sunday July 26. We'll also be having a forum discussion with the folks from the IPRC (together we are the CASCADIA ZINE COALITION!) about sustaining zine libraries and supporting the zine community in the Northwest. Come by and say hello!

Issue one of my zine Invisible Kitten is complete. I wrote it in one night. It's stream of consciousness writing. A lot about my feelings and descriptions of love, self image, resistance, and the paranormal summed up in and mixed up with dreams. I'll be making copies soon and I'll be at Sac Zine Symposium if you want to trade in person. Or you can send a dollar or trade or vegan cookies or anything else really to:
PO Box 54
Hood, CA 95639
I'm also in… Continue

The answer to, and winner (if any) for,
our last contest question of:
With all those summer blockbusters, we have this question. What's the name of a device that lets a person drive a puppet from a distance? For extra credit what's it named after?
The remote manipulator is called a "WALDO" named after Robert A. Heinlein's sci-fi short story "Waldo"
We had no winner, Seems y'all's brains had no manipulation at all!

In Stolen Sharpie Revolution 2
, Alex Wrekk suggests printing on sticker paper. Once you're ready to lay out your writing, you just peel the backing off the sticker paper and stick it to your page. I just tried it for a page I am making for Jenny Archibald's artist zine, and it TOTALLY WORKED! Not only did it work, it was AWESOME! I didn't have to whip out my (almost empty) glue stick, and now I don't have excess glue on my hands, computer keyboard, and workspace.
I am so… Continue
