We at the Ms Valerie Park Distro are headed to Boulder, Co in the morning to attend this weekend's Utne Reader awards ceremony because our very own Ariel Birks got nominated for Zine of the Year for
Jesus Christ Superzine! Kinda weird, we're totally going to be the only zinesters at the thing, but how often do you get invited such a thing? For us, not very often. We'll keep y'all posted on the…

that this ever growing community has made my life.
i can barely keep track of the trades i'm currently involved in. i have zines waiting in my mailbox at least once a week. i have comments from people who like what i've written and want to read more. i've run out of issues and had to get more copied.
i feel myself falling in love with zines all over.
thank you to all the people i've traded with. thank you to all future trades as well.
when i was in high school,…

So, I was pleasantly surprise when I went to my local library-- Multnomah county's
Hollywood branch-- and found that they have started a zine exchange! Now, not only do they carry zines in many branches and offer a bunch of great
zine info online, but they also facilitate zine trades!! They had a box below the zine shelf full of zines for trade on the honor system, like many book-borrowing…

Due to a death in my family and starting classes, I've had to delay the normal functions of GENEROUS. The Spring/Summer issue is going to have some empahsis on health but since this is the first time I'm going with a theme, other topics are gladly welcomed!
If you haven't read my previous posts, here's a briefing.
GENEROUS is a women-themed 'zine with a humorous yet informative edge. We poke fun at pop culture instead of being a victim of here-today, gone-tomorrow…

Unemployment, a state of atrophy that rots the mind and depresses the soul. OK so I may be being a tad melodramatic but anyone who has been unemployed for a long stretch during this current financial F**k up knows that living off government benefits is no where near as much fun as an episode of Shameless may suggest. The constant searching for any scrap of the paid work, the feeling of uselessness and lethargy and, if like me you finished your degree last year, an overpowering sense of…

If there is anyone else who has experimented with poem videos, let me know.

BECAUSE us girls crave records and books and fanzines that speak to US that WE feel included in and can understand in our own ways.
BECAUSE we wanna make it easier for girls to see/hear each other's work so that we can share strategies and criticize-applaud each other.
BECAUSE we must take over the means of production in order to create our own moanings.
BECAUSE viewing our work as being connected to our girlfriends-politics-real lives is essential if we are…

Ilse Content is one of my favorite zines. It has been around for six years and someday should get put in book form like Doris, Invincible Summer, or Cometbus- it's just as good as any of those. Until that day comes, we have a new issue out to satisfy our hungers. It just came out this week and I just put it up on the distro, you should check it out:
