I travelled from London to Brighton on Saturday, picking some friends up on the way, to go to my first ever zine related event.
Hannover Community Centre had a great feel to it, very village hall-like.
The main room downstairs was packed! We placed our mix CD in the box and went round all the different stalls. It was amazing to see the wide variety of zines available, right from DIY through to professional books.

I was happily working on my second zine. I was reading and thinking maybe I should stick with art, since art is what I know about, so I ripped out part of the guts of my second zine. I made the decision to just do art, then some things happened, and now here it is a few weeks later, my life is over flowing with all kinds of things and there sits my second zine looking at me accusingly.
I'm not sure if I will publish the first or second one,… Continue

Februrary is pretty epic. This month bring a slew of newness, especially as far as zines are concerned. With subjects ranging from radical parenting to the non-traditional use of classical instruments, I'm always happy to carry more zines that don't have the usual themes. As much as I love a good perzine about riding a bike to get donuts with one's friends, I like ones about revolutionary locksmiths and lifelong non-religious virginity much better. We restocked a ton of stuff, too, and there's… Continue

Last night I finally put the the finishing touches to my first ever zine.
Phoenixii. Issue 1
It is a collection of songs/lyrics/poems/stories/experiences and artwork.
I really wanted to make my first zine and I am happy I have managed to complete it. Now comes the printing. I was going to attempt to covertyl copy it at work but do not think this is going to be practical as the areas are too open and people will see what I am… Continue

So, CHALLENGE ME! I just remembered an activity we did a couple of times in school before... we had to pick a song or someone had to pick a song for us, and then we try to make a story out of it.
SO yeah, challenge me to make a story out of ANY song at all. if you could link me to the lyrics that would be great (esp. if it is an old song or a not-so popular song). If you choose to make it extra challenging, choose a genre and/or set a deadline!

So, one morning a few months ago (I am just getting around to posting this), I had a dream. I wrote down a very short blurb about it that morning.
"We were all majoring in Zines at a university. It was like theatre classes, only for everything to do with zines. There were so many people I knew, because my mind used all the faces from profile photos on We Make Zines to fill in the faces of my fellow dream classmates."

We have some awesome new zines that I want to tell everyone about!
- A Million Birthdays #8 and A Million Birthdays #10: The writing in these zines is incredible, and possibly the best I've ever seen. K's stories just grab you, and I wanted to know more about the people she writes about. I'm getting A Million Birthdays #9 in very soon and I can't wait to add it to the catalog.
- Basic Paper Airplane #2 and #3: Joshua's zines seem very old school, and I like that.…

We just bought a percolator, and three cups of coffee later I'm certainly awake, but still don't have time to do the million things for the take care site that need doing. At last count there were about 20 items whose descriptions need to be added (only a few of which are actually written), about half of which are for items that are entirely new and not on the site yet. Insane! But never fear, when Tim gets home from work this afternoon we're going to start work on it, so by mid next week,… Continue
