2011 Portland Zine Symposium Art Call!

The Portland Zine Symposium is looking for art submissions for the 2011 poster. This year’s theme is “Postmarked 2011.” Your art submission should be your creative interpretation of that theme.

The guidelines are simple – We are looking for a 11″ wide x 17″ tall poster that will also be used in other formats (the web, post cards, buttons, stickers, etc), so your design needs to be visible and striking at multiple sizes and resolutions (or have smaller, breakaway pieces). The design…

Musea Extra: National Hiring Day

"Why would national hiring day be news? And who is behind it? These are questions that would be asked before NPR would report on it. Just doesn't seem like anything they would cover. "  NPR Ombudsman.

"Well why didn't they ask?" - Tom Hendricks

Musea, my 18 year old zine, suggested the idea of a National Hiring Day. Here was the official announcement:

aaargh modern technology!

can anyone give me some advice on using acrobat professional?

i've got a pdf of not afraid of ruins #2, and i'm trying to get it small enough to easily email to people/upload to websites. originally it was 250 mb and the pages were huge. i went back and resized the individual scanned pages in photoshop to make them A4 sized, and then compiled all of them into a pdf in acrobat. somehow, that made it even bigger, so version 2.0 is about 800 mb. i've tried the 'reduce file size' option… Continue

Musea E-mail Club #521  5,000 Art Work. METEORITE COWBOY BOLO TIE

Readers,  January 11, 2011  I made my 5,000th art work. Though I didn't plan it it is much in the same style as the one at #4,900! But honest, most of my art works are quite colorful. This one is more black and white. I call this style…

I'm still around

I've not been around much lately. My mother died in november and I've found it hard to get on with things. I think I'm slowly getting back to normal, but it's taking a while. Sorry if I've not sent zines to people I promised them too. Give me a reminder and I'll get on with it.

The answer to, and winner (if any) for, our last contest question of:

Believe it or not (according to the magazine Mental Floss / Matt Soniak), there's one disease that has many of the Vampire symptoms such as: it attacks the central nervous system altering moods and behaviors and leads to insomnia. Sufferers become agitated and demented, and they have muscular spasms that can even lead to spitting up blood, spasms that can be triggered by bright lights, mirrors, and strong smells…

Cyberpunk Apocalypse visiting writer program

I live at the Cyberpunk Apocalypse writers' collective in Pittsburgh PA. For over a year now, we've offered month-long writing residencies. We've had writers from all over the continent just about every month staying in our guest room while concentrating on their own writing projects.

If you are a writer and need a month to get away and concentrate on a specific project, this residency might be for you. Check out cyberpunkapocalypse.com for more information on the residency…

Olive Stew - the ways try to figure out love.

the ways we get it wrong.

Here is the side of love that is more often seen. The times when we struggle to get it right and fall short.

...

Express your interpretation of this concept through photography, illustration, writing in fiction or nonfiction, haiku, painting, collage, comics - hell, I'll even take music if that's how you choose to share it. I would even interview you to get out your story. Or you could… Continue

Now on the Facebook

After continual prodding from distro friends, we broke down and did it: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ms-Valerie-Park-Distro/129344460466581

We just started it a few minutes ago, so nobody likes it or friends or whatever happens on the Book, so hey, maybe you could go and check it out and click a button?

And, as you may be able to tell, we don't otherwise use Facebook and have little idea about…

This Saturday Night Distro/ Zine Recommendations

The Distro:

Well the past few months have gone by sooo fast. I've been trying to expand the distro, and at the end of December it was time for me to renew the domain thissaturdaynight.net, so I paid the $12 dollar fee, but the site wouldn't show up, so I called the hosting company and they said that "They had no record" of me owning that domain. Seriously? I tried explaining to them that it belonged to me, and it ha for more than 2 years, but they didn't get it. So now my domain…

Possibly D&D Zine

Im thinking of making a series of zines about the tabletop games Iv played, kinda comics about the storylines plus character sketches, all the technical information and charts, ect.

Im not sure about what to call it though. "Tabletop Adventures" seems too bland....anyone have any ideas for a name?
Also, would this idea be of interest to anyone? Does anyone here even play any tabletop games?

Introducing By the Skin of My Teeth

I am new to We Make Zines and I'd like to introduce you to my zine By the Skin of My Teeth. I have been creating zines now for just over six months and I am totally addicted, both to reading zines and creating them. My zines are perzines and this series started off as only about my experience with mental health issues but now is starting to be so much more, though that is still present of course.

My zines are half size (A5) and although they didn't start…

New Colour Zine

Colour zine a Little Whisper Smoke Signs That You'll Never Get numero uno

16 page full colour 1/4 sized perzine. £1.50 + pp

I thought I'd do a zine focusing more on images and what I've been up to and photographing rather than articles.

I wanted to continue to use titles that were from songs, and were also a total pain in the arse.
