In an attempt to be more active in the whole zine scene/ culture, I decided to do random trades with ANYONE.
If you're interested, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org :) MOst if not all the zines I'll receive from these trades will be made examples and may even be featured in future PLunge fundraising events--figured that since most of us are tight on postage dollars, if I'm going to ass (or even beg) people to send zines our way, it's only decent to send something back . :)

Here at QZAP 2010 is off to a roaring start. We've now got 300 zines, flyers, and odd ephemera online in the Archive! If this is your first time here or you're a regular reader, please take some time to browse and find something new-to-you to read.
There are the classics like J.Ds, Anonymous Boy, I ♥ Amy Carter, and Susan Mini Mag. There are more recent zines like the 2008 RMO Tour zine from our friends in the Rude Mechanical Orchestra,… Continue

So, I've been off for work for the past few days, and have kinda re-immersed myself in zine culture, reading zines and comics, listening to zine podcasts, finishing a long overdue issue of my own and compiling stuff for a best of. I went through a box and found some ooooold ass stickers from back in the day and stuck 'em to my laptop. I made a list of people I'd like to swap with and started writing letters and mailing zines.
Then on the 4th day of non-stop zine-o-rama, I remembered… Continue

War with the Cartoon Characters
We as a people had had enough!
"Let's try as a jury and also a judge
all the cartoon 2D bunch;
rope them and their shenanigans,"
shouted the crowd, every one.
"Time to be serious when things are dark,
time to go to work and pull a plow,
time to clean up after those who draw."
The characters in concert said, "Phooey to that!"
and sent raspberries to all in earshot
and drew up multiple musical… Continue

paper trail distro is open again now that the holidays are over, but the break i took made me realize that the distro isn't where i want to put my energy anymore. i knew when i started out seven years ago that the distro had an expiration date--i couldn't keep running it forever. & i think the time has come to shut it down. it's been a while since i really enjoyed the process of running a zine distro, even though i had many good years of reading great zines, meeting interesting people,… Continue

i am antsy as all hell to make some zines that have been sitting on the backburner for months or maybe years...
unfortunately, my hard drive crashed in that ever so delightfully unsavable way, so i have no computer attached to my printer and in turn, no way to print out the zines i have written.
fortunately, nothing was lost in this crash as i am backing up everything on an external hard drive for good measure. for once, my hard drive bailed and i lost nothing!… Continue

I can tell that somewhere deep inside me I've already begun "Good Night, Cephalopod." I've already got the text and have been kind of stuck on the drawings--and distracted by life. But I'm getting that drawing feeling. This will be my second zine done entirely in colored pencil.

Three zines from my "Junk Drawer" series will be part of an exhibition of artist made books at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. There will be 13 other artists and writers featured, and from what I've seen, most seem to be pretty accomplished. And then there's me, with little photocopied, stapled zines. Nothing fancy, but somehow they're in an art exhibit. Well, I'm just glad that zines are being recognized along with other "art books," as they call them.
The show takes place… Continue

i'm busy working on cocoa/puss issue #4. maybe busy isn't the right word because i love my zine and it isn't exactly "work" to put it out. it's actually the highlight of my crazy fucked up life. i love the responses and the copying and the glue everywhere. i love stickers on enevelopes and trades and all of it. i'm just in the brainstorming phase right now. trying not to force the writing out. read a little bukowski and he said something about if you have to sit and force the words out, you… Continue

I braved the arctic wind to make copies of Scatter Gram 5 today! They're all ready to go. I'm so happy I've been able to keep this zine going and put it out on a regular basis. I'll probably just do one more issue after this, though, because it's all about being in library school and I'm set to graduate in June.

LOOSE CONFEDERATION of ADVOCATES
There is a growing LOOSE CONFEDERATION of people in the art and media revolution. There are many artists, advocates, and advocacy groups, that cover the problems of a specific type of art. And some, like myself see the problem as endemic of all arts and media.
Some of these leaders know of the other leaders, some of us have even worked with each other to bring about changes. But whether by ourselves, or within our specific interests, or as… Continue
